I was wondering if the pto wire was energized with 12volts if that would make the truck fast idle? 2001 24valve 5speed

No it won't. Do a search on this subject, there was an extremely long thread about this somewhere. From my understanding, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, Only the ISB motors in other vehicles besides Dodge pickups have the pto or "high idle" option. Dodge made Cummins use a 50-pin ECM and connector instead of their usual 100-pin ECM and connector. There is a software update that can be downloaded on the ECM to enable a "high idle" but only if the temperature is cold enough to kick it on. If you want to be able to do it at will, you will have to buy a high idle box.

the high idle/3cyl idle is a TSB, I guess there are two options for allowing the truck to do this on its own (aside from aftermarket add ons): first would be to have the dealer enable the function (may require a reflash if the option is not available in the current software)
the other option is find someone near you who has a smarty, and they can load a catcher software, then take truck back to stock and the smarty installs the newest software version on the truck and has high idle/3 cyl idle enabled by default.

yes and it did enable on my 2001 with the new speed limiter software. Seattle, WA rarely gets this cold.

Ramped up to just under 1200 RPM. Viola :-laf

Bob, a couple Smarty questions I am sure have been asked, but I couldnt find where:

I know Smarty will only work on one truck at a time. I was curious if you all had thought about allowing units with essentially multiple licenses... so it could be used on say 2 trucks at a time. Just curious as a Smarty is pretty high on my list of things to get, but I have 2 24valves... and the dilemma of which one to use it on

question number 2, what codes will Smarty read? only P codes?

Thanks
