hey all, i got a friend who just got a 00' 24v , and im trying to help him figure out if it has a chip on it or not, theres no adjustable box like th edge comp, and i cant find anything under the hood, now im a 12v guy, so im not sure what i should be looking for on the vp44 pump, so are there any real tell tale signs of a fuel modification, and do they make downloaders for the 24v trucks?? the only reason im asking is the truck smokes a bit, and def. has more power than a stock truck, yet i suppose injectors could do that as well without a chip. thanks for any info guys.

Superchips could be installed and you would not see any devices or parts under the hood or dash. I am not sure how you would be able to tel unless you had the hand held programmer that it takes to install it and uninstall it, it would give about 70hp ruffly. What is the boost and EGT's running at? Fuel pressure? Does it have original exhaust? Then like you said it could have a set of sticks in it, there should be someone who knows how to check if they are original. I am not sure how.

that's what i was thinking a hand held programmer, cause there is no box, or any wiring harness that i can find on or near the VP44 that would indicate a fueling enhancement, the truck had stock everything, except for this mystery fuel enhacement when he got it, since then hes got a MPRB 4" exhaust, and BHAF, im helping him with gauges, we just need to get the fuel press. isolator hose and then we can complete the install.

Most likely it has bigger injectors in it.

If it has a box on it ( timing ) some of us can hear the differences . It will clatter at idle a little more and is more noticeable at an off idle.

BTW, bigger injectors really are a good starting point for a 24 valve Cummins.

fox - any specific suggestion on replacement injectors? I'm kicking the idea around myself, but am not sure what direction to go.

What do you use the truck for?

Towing, stay small with injectors or you will need a turbo change. Twins work real good here. Then you have drivetrain mods required.

Racing is a different game, more fuel and air and you can lift the throttle as needed. Or set it up for 30 second bursts of power, like sled pulling!!

I have a nephew with an 01 TST pm 3 and 275 injectors. A spring on the wastegate with a stock turbo.

He can spin the duals with a 44-48 race car trailer--loaded!!!

Does he need more ?????

Fox is correct when he asked "What are you using the truck for?" It will depend on how you set it up to get it to perform the way you want.

I have Don M mach 2 injectors in mine. Its also got an edge ez and some other things. I love the way it drives. Its fast enough plus it tows like a beast. I set it up to tow, but I also get a pretty fast performing truck as well. I have considered installing Mach 4's, but I know that I will need to install a larger turbo to make it all work the way I want.

So it really depends on what you want, or what all you want to install... . :-laf

It's just a daily driver - I've got a couple goals in mind... smoke and improved fuel economy if possible, maybe a fuel box is a better mod to go with for the smoke. By the time I get the stacks put in the bed in a few months, I need to be able to roll some good clouds

haha, and when you do post some pictures.

If you're looking for stacks call Ed Kin at heavy truck parts int'l

RJ,

Thanks for the referral on stacks. Pics will definitely be posted as soon as the stacks go in. I've got Christmas time targeted because that's when my brother-in-law and I can get together to do it. Family thing these diesels you know...

injectors

I have Bully Dog stage 3s with the Edge Drag Comp. It will blow smoke with the box Oo. and it will blow smoke all the way through overdrive with the box on 5x5 :--)

I most certainly support enjoying our trucks to the fullest extent of our pleasures, what ever they may be. Just be carefull, balance is increasingly important as the power grows.

if you pull the injectors most (if not all) aftermarked and including the 275's will have 8 holes instead of 5. if 8 then you know you got injectors next step is what kind and how big. i know there is a code you can look for with the downloaders, but im not sure.
