24V Oil Pressure Sender Failure
After the Oil Pressure Guage on my 2001 3500 (ETH-DEE) went to zero, I read all the posts and then checked prices on the sender with Dodge and with Cummins in Knoxville. Dodge wanted $284 and Cummins had it for $77 !
I proceeded to buy the part (4088390) from Cummins and installed it... . worked for a minute then went erratic... I tried disconnecting the batteries to reset the ECM but that only worked for a minute too.
Finally I took it to a Dodge dealer who re-flashed the ECM to synchronize it with the Cummins sender. Even with the Dodge $97 charge, I still came out better than buying the part from Dodge !
The moral is with the fully electronic nature of these engines, just replacing the failed sender may not work..... "They" never intended for us to do our own repairs !
