24v valve adjustments

I had a after warm tick knock and had the valves checked. Mech said all were too tight. So, he adjusted and sounded great for a few days. Anyway, theres a tick knock like cold engine after the oil and temp is up and going. What other parts can make this sound or was my first atempt to check by having the dealer look at it not correct. The dealer I deal with is great. So, should I do a valve adjustment myself?? Next ques. would be, Can one of you out there tell me how to do it? If you all dont think its the valves what else can make the sound or where else can I look. I have almost 12,000 miles and I have always heard this sound but now its alittle louder and more common. Its like a noise rocker on a gasser engine type sound. Thanks Terril.



Oh, I remember one of my oil changes I didnt start the engine and did change. At the startup there was that sound but loud and it took a few days to go mostly away. Later oil changes I started and ran for a few minutes and changed and there was no sound at startup.

I think I know the sound you're talking about. I get something similer from time to time (maybe it's there all the time and I don't notice it?). It almost reminds me of the noise gasser fuel injectors make. If your valves were to tight I don't think they would have caused the noise the first time around.

I really have no idea what it could be. I know if I took it somewhere they would say "It's a diesel". Yeah, but under the diesel sound is this other sound. Hopefully somone else here has an idea.



After a little more thought, maybe it is the injectors. On the big diesels I work around, when you put your hand on the injector pumps you can feel when they inject. I haven't tried that yet on my truck, you may be able to feel the fuel line pulse as each injector injects.
