I went from a 94 to a 99. I've got 101K on it now but I've only put about 20,000 on myself. The only problem I've had is the rear trans seal leaked when I brought it, had the dealer replace it before their 3000 mile warranty was up. I do have the 53 block, the number is cast into the block on drivers side front of engine just above the pan.

Things I like about the 99:

Starts easier in the cold weather with out being plugged in.

Cruise control buttons location on steering wheel.

Things I liked about the 94:

Cruise control held the speed it was set for.

Thanks for all the info guys. After taking another look at my budget I have decided to go with a newer truck with less miles. Now all I have to do is find one :)

In reference to the '97 truck in the classifieds... . SEmerson checked the truck out for me and he said that the truck was well above average in all areas and that it was a great buy. It might be too late though cause I know the guy was getting a bunch of offers.

Thanks again!

my 96 is my first CTD. ive been hearing alot about this infamouse "dowell pin" problem. what eXaCtlY is that? how would you know if its been repaired? does it cost alot to fix? excuse my inexpirence, i just joined TDR this last month. thanks

The KDP is a dowel pin that locates the timing gear case to the block and is known to come out and drop into the timing gears and bust out the case. The cam has to be removed to replace the timng gear case. The fix is simple and takes about 2 hours and runs about $50 for parts.

I did look at it for him. I could not find anything wrong with it. I would have to say it is above average. The gentleman selling it seemed to be straight forth on it too. I would have no reservations buying it.
