If you run an exhaust brake you MUST do this every 10 k miles or your milage WILL suffer, read the above thread and DO IT , My IAT senser was almost plugged off totaly at 35K with carbon, although I havent roaded the truck since cleaning I know from past posts that this simple 10 minute proceedure will help your milage !!! dont hesitate ... ..... do it today!!!

Click on the procedure from the Dodge Ram page and it will give you complete accurate details... ... ..... nothing to loose

Whitmore do you think anybodys gonna believe what you say after what you have done to the Other section. After all your sorta gassed up. :D

I have heard others say the same thing, BUT I have had my B-D brake for around 40K miles, use it all the time, and still get 20+ MPG every tank (on summer fuel). I buy at Pacific Pride, and enter my mileage every time I buy fuel, this way its on the bill when I get it so I can follow the MPG trends.

Still, next time I feel like working on it, I will check it anyway.

sure wont hurt

its there to sense o2 and with a layer of carbon on it , it prolly gettin a bad reading.

What does a 12v need one for ... ... ... ..... maybe emmisions :confused:

Just back from a 1100 mile trip grossing 19K+. I've used the E-brake all the time whether towing or not since under 1000 miles on the '01. On the trip I averaged for the whole trip 14. 4 miles per gal. and that included both ways through Seattle traffic with considerable stop and go. Think I will leave the sensor alone till milage or power suffer. Turned over 45K on the trip.

Isn't there a way to bypass this reading to some setting that works all the time giving good gas mileage. Maybe a resister wired wired in to give it that same ohm reading at some temp.

Maybe its just me but the all mighty Cummins seams to run smoother after cleaning my IAT, I am going to clean it every 10 K

Are the IAT sensors the same from 01 to 00, I hve a sensor from the 01 i sold and i want to relocate it into the air box in my 00. would these work or is the voltage different , as my EZ would change over. Thanks

I wish I could get close to your milage. The best I haVE DONE SO FAR IS 17, USUALLY ONLY ABOUT 13!:{

has not helped me!

I have cleaned my twice and the only diff I can see is the engine idles better smoother mpg has not done I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER and no more power. That is what I have seen and I use pacbrake as much as possible.

Pulled mine today, truck has 45K on it and it was clean (no exahust brake), accept for a little oily residue (probably left over from that darn K&N) :rolleyes:

WWelllll;

Even thought I had no power or mileage complaints, I figured all the guys on here must be on to something,, so set out to clean it

1. Ten minute job my hiney bones!!! It took me at least two or three ten minute sessions before I finally was sure I had located that sucker. It took several more minutes to figure out that yes it really is possible to get a wrench on it..... from that point it was about a ten minute job.

(I hate it when you guys make me feel like a stumble bum :>)

2. After 45+K and all but the first 1K with the E-brake in use most all the time, and with a K&N on for at least 40K, there was a light oily residue on it, but the pickup in the little cage was still plainly visible, so gave it a shot of cleaner and stuck it back in.

you know, this mileage thing has been a pain in my rear. I got 15 in my truck while lots of you got 20. Same truck. Measured at the pump. New IAT, synthetics, upped tire pressure, controlled my speed, no turbo leaks, same fuel(conoco) and a VA box, reflash, on and on and on. Now I get 18. 2 on some tanks and 16. 1 on others. SAME EVERYTHING!!! Sometimes i can push the pedal halfway and just haul A$$ and sometimes i have to go to the floor for the same feeling. I really think that our pumps have some sorta subtle difference in them when made. I would love to find one of you with the mythical 22 MPG to come to my house and do a part by part swap till we find the combo of things that makes from a 2 to 6 MPG difference in our trucks!!! RRR

I live in the midwest and I think the Cetane levels very so much that it screws up the mileage from tank to tank. Was looking at an old copy of the TDR the other day and the levels can be all over the place. Bottom line I think it is the fuel that causes the problem with mileage, or its a big factor.
