I got 25. 2 MPG this weekend! The new 4" exhaust and BHAF have really seemed to help mileage. I only had 101 miles on the tank, but I fill up the same every time. This mileage was at 65 mph with a motorcycle, 4 wheeler on a small trailer, a bunch of camping stuff, and a buddy. This also includes a 6-7% grade that is about 6 miles long. I had just over 400 miles on the previous tank and got 18mpg. BUT, this includes at least 5 hours of driving in first gear on steeeep terrain, some around town, some time in four-wheel drive, and short trips around the woods. I can’t believe the power and mileage. This is great! :D

That is great news! Are you running a fuel additive? For a free flowing 6BT-12V those fuel economy numbers are within the ball park of this engine's specific fuel consumption figures. Good job!!:)

I wans't running a fuel additive at the time. However, I do occasionally, mostly to add lubricity to the fuel, to lengthen the life of the pump. I am very happy with the mileage I am getting. It seems to be getting better with the mods! More power, better mileage, what more can you ask for?

hey Smokey

It dont count if you have the scooter tire on the ground and 5th gear at wot helping to push;) ... ... ... . Just kidding of course... ... ... . Kevin

Dang, Whitmore, don't let my secrets out! Pretty soon there will be a bunch of first gens being pushed around by trail 90s. What next, waiting for the wind to blow the direction you want to drive? We cant have that. We better keep this between us. :p

Old Smoky,

I installed the BHAF mount you made for me and it is really great! I noticed a little more acceleration and I could hear the turbo kick in earlier. The turbo also sounded louders some how? Pretty Cool! My father purchased the Fleetguard filter for me for $24 dollars at Cummins (he is an employee. . lucky me) so it has been a good value. I will check mileage soon. Thank you again.

PS The mount bolted up really easily... ... I will put some pictures in my online alblum soon.

I am glad to hear that you are happy with your mount, Titan. The turbo is louder because the filter is no longer in a box, and it is getting more air. Sounds great, doesn't it?

Old Smoky,

Man that's great mileage... . How much did you turn your pump up?

Did you notice an increase in mileage after the pump tweak?. . I'm getting ready to turn up my pump and maybe go with a smaller turbo housing. I think one of your filter mounts would do the trick... . Put me down for one if/when you have the time. . I would like to hear that turbo sing... ... ... . Chuck

Chuck,

I have turned in the "power screw" 1 1/4 to 2 turns. It's been a while so it is hard to remember; I think I have it written down somewhere. I also adjusted the star wheel, and barely turned the diaphragm. I recently adjusted the high idle up to 2900 rpm. The timing has also been advanced. Mileage didn't really change unless I used the extra fuel. I suppose its possible to increase mileage if a hill could be pulled in 5th, instead of 4th, with a load. The right foot is also a factor. If you want an "Old Smoky Mount" for sure, just let me know and I will build one for you. Everyone has sure been happy with them.
