25 Mpg!

Well, if I can manage to get my self to go 60mph on the freeway for long periods of time, the math tells me so!



Yesterday and Today I took a trip to WI and back. I forget the town, about 50-60 miles in. Plus a run to the west side of MSP and back. So here's how I figure.



DTE is accute for me. MGP isn't accurate, but consistant'y off 5mpg (give or take . 2).



over 360 miles of 95% highway.



1. 25 hours of idle with the A/C on (doesn't help for MGP). and 2 runs up to 108 and a few smoke outs for tail gating.



EZ on 1, Juice on 1/1



The DTE + millage driven would be about 625mile per tank. DTE at 0 will give me 32 gallons give or take . 5 gallons every time



So this puts me at 19mpg for this weekends trip. (I shoudl varify with a top off, but I'm lazy, and over 65,000 miles of time with you truck, you just know!)



My trip to SD and back, Cruise set to 85 most of hte way yeilded 15mpg.



A few people here have their millage posted in their signatures. It seems to be right on that for every 5mph, you loose 2mpg.



at 60mph, that would net me 25mpg. 55mph would be putting the RPM's under 1600 with the 295/70/17's nitto's.



7400#'s, Tail gate up, fairly level travel. MSP -> WI = down hill. I suspect I got 21mpg at 75mph there and 17 on the way back.



I think the EZ really netted some millage.

Hmm, put my EZ box back on this week while TST has the PMCR in their possession. On my L. A. turn I usually use 70-75 gallons per trip, thursday I only used 59. 5 . Same trip down empty , back with a 40' box, have to wonder if the timing feature in the TST box was working. EZ on level 2 , TST on 2x2 for EGT concerns.

If I shift below 2k and stay at 62mph the best i have gotten is 22. 5mpg. I am very lucky in the fact that I can set the cruise and leave it alone all the way to work 32 miles one way. By driving this way I use less than 1/8 of a tank for a round trip.

I am getting a consistant 23. 5 MPG if I drive no faster than 68 MPH down the highway. If I could drive slower, like 60, I bet I could get 25 too.

I have a 34 gallon tank, and many times I put on the trip indiacator at fill-ups 750 miles

What should I get @ 68MPH w/4x4, EDM 2's HTB2 Turbo and 1,000 Lbs of diesel in the bed in a transfer tank?

Anyone want to ruin my evening?

If you fill up, drive a distance, then fill up again and then calculate your mileage by hand you know what MPG your truck gets, anything else is just a estimate.

As of mid 2006 the diesel has changed. Now here is another thing that I have been holding back until I get a whole year on this NEW LOW SULFER DIESEL FUEL to get an honest MPG figures. So far driving 70, my MPG has been in the 21's. Looks like the new fuel reduced my MPG by 1, but I want to drive a whole year on this new stuff to make a fair comparsion through the whole year.

With a few non-performance mods, I can pull almost 23mpg out with a NV5600 and 4. 10s. It has a lot to do with keeping them at or under 2k RPMs.



Having good fuel also plays a big part... one batch of crappy fuel and my mileage will drop for the next couple tanks...

With a couple SMALL exceptions, I'm all stock where the engine is concerned. Plus, I've only got 21,000 on my rig. How can I improve my MPG???

:-laf I got 18. 8 on a 700 mile round trip to Anchorage, Ak a week ago. In 4-wheel drive all the way. I ain't complaining. I can't wait to do it again with the juice.

Welcome to the forumn. You too need to fill out a profile.

For some gear and eng combo's 19. 5 is good. With my combo I can hit 24. 7 mpg if I keep it between 55-60 and run strictly highway.

Also, your overhead is not to be trusted. Hand calculate to get an accurate measurement.

A while back I did a series of tests while driving through central Kansas (fairly consistantly flat). I ran 10 miles with the cruise set at each of the following speeds 55, 60,65,70,75, and 80 (had time to burn). I checked the mileage with the overhead. The effects of speed on mileage were pretty amazing. 55mph-23. 5mpg, 60-21. 7, 65-20. 7, 70-19. 8, 75-17. 0, 80-13. 6. The truck that I was driving was a 2004. 5 6spd 1 ton 4dr 6spd with 3. 73 rearend with no load. I didn't own the truck and don't know how accurate the overhead was but the test really illustrated how SPEED KILLS.

Thanks for the information. Actually, I've been hand calculating the mileage and comparing it to the overhead to test its accuracy. Turns out my overhead is either within . 5 or can be as much as 2 MPG off either way. Am hoping to see if I can improve the MPG a bit. (I think I've got my profile filled out properly - guess I'll find out when I send this. )
