Anybody else see this on Barrett-Jackson auction on Speed Channel?. Who would have thought back then that these would be worth this. Bidding started at $170,000. 00.

Another '70 HemiCuda went for $305,000. 00 a little later. That one was a hand-built promo model It was the 2nd one built (before they went into production), I think they said.

I was in until it went over $300k, then it got too rich for my blood. :-laf LOL

I bought the Cuda. I am parking it next to the 53 block. The museum name is the "Best and Worst That Chrysler Offers".

I would sell ........

My Boss`s internal organs for a "genny" 70 `cuda. Removed personally. I have missed out on several toys like these due to poverty early in life. Once missed a NICE 70 Challenger for 4K. Hemi, TF,PS,PB. Plus it was balanced & blueprinted. Even the original drivetrain pieces were in it. Oh,to go back and correct the sins of the past! DK.

I am a dyed in the wool moparite, but the blue 429 Boss mustang that sold after the 305k 'cuda was really a nice car and didn't go for close to the mopar, they sold a gt500kr right after it that outsold it that to me wasn't nearly the car the 429 was, flash over substance I guess, they need to have the british fella look for correct shorts in the lucas wiring and keep him away from the yankee stuff IMO.

I believe the GT 500 KR is even more rare than a BOSS 429. Back in high school, I knew a guy, whose dad had a '68 GT 500 KR sitting in his driveway for years rotting. Makes me sick to think about.

I don't have any mustang prod figures, maybe they had to make 500 or one for every dealer of the 429's to make them legal for nascar but rarity doesn't always guarentee desireability, by 68 the "shelby" was pretty much a tarted up mustang w/a plaque and a policecar motor whereas the boss is a detuned handbuilt racecar that ford lost money on each one and they weren't cheap. there used to be 68 kr500 in my hometown also, a green coupe that absorbed a lot of tree sap, I saw another at a ford event a few years back, sitting ignored while kids in 5. 0's were comparing stereo's... . go figure.

Anyone notice what the SS/DX Buick Grand Nationial went for this afternoon, I was at the racetrack and could n't watch it! :( Buddy of mines car !

The big picture

The Mopars just kicked butt on price. Did anyone see the Airflow hot rod sell? It was absolutely a piece of art. Good show for the Chrysler guys, for sure.

I thought...

that the whole bidding deal was skewed. Cars that should have been higher, weren't. People paid way too much for hacked up hot rods, and way too little for real solid classics. After watching how Boyd Coddington's shop operates (a tv show serial), I wouldn't touch one of his cars. Reputation based on glitz, not substance, for sure. Could be a generational thing, with some younger buyers not recognizing classics' value and histories.

The one thing I liked about the auction other than the cars, was the announcer staff. Excellent commentary. I agree, too with comments about putting Chev engines in other brands. They don't belong there when so many better choices are out there.

We used to live two miles from Westworld, and went to two of these auctions. You have never seen so many nice cars.

Last night on "Rides" , they showed a guy, ( it looked like he was in the midst of restoring these 3 Hemi 'Cudas) who had the first Hemi 'Cuda convertible. It's white and he said it's worth 2 million, probably closer to 3 million dollars! It was the actual first production convertible! The other two were worth $600,000 combined. Must be rough!
