2500 4x4 gvwr

Interesting, I see two things here. Scott and I listed the rating straight from our 97/98 manuals. These differ based on engine and gears. This should answer Jim's original question since his is a 97.

I also see a discussion about getting the higher rating by sending in the letter. Because newer trucks are marked wrong. Does this only apply to newer trucks, or can I get one of those for my 97 as well?

Are the newer trucks rated 20,000 for the autos and 3. 54 gears because of higher HP and beefed up trannys? Or has DC made suspension and brake improvements as well?

Several of us were able to extract letters from DC on DC letterhead showing the 20,000 lb. GCWR for non-automatic Cummins 2500's.

MikeR, its interesting that your 4X4 with a 6 speed is 580 lbs heavier than mine. I probably should have given more info. such as, auto, 3:54, short bed, quad cab. Unless you weigh 400 and gas is heavier in the north, I wonder where the extra comes from. I'd think that the 6 speed is lighter?? The GCWR for me is 16000 for the auto.

My owner's manual is specific to the Cummins engine, so all of the figures I posted are for Cummins equipped trucks. The manual makes no mention of the V10.

No you cannot get your '97 ratings changed.
The problem was DC had a typo on the year 2000 window sticker ratings of the stick shifts... mine was one of them(18k I think). If I opened up the owners manual,the correct rating was printed there(20k),that's why guys were getting DC to send them letters with the correct rating.
I used to have a '99 diesel Ram that was identical to the 'T' as my '00,and it had the correct 20k rating,so I knew it was a typo.

I should have put my sig in so you could see my truck is also a longbed quadcab.
Last time I checked,I was nowhere near 400 lbs! If I was at my height,I'd be just as wide as I would be tall. #ad

Bummer.

I was just reading the owners manual I pulled from the glovebox. It shows different ratings for GCVW that the Dodge Magnum Towing manual ( brouchure ) the dealer gave me when I got the truck. The owers manual does show the 4x2 has higher rating that the 4x4 like mentioned above, and the towing sheet shows them the same like was originally claiming.

So Now I say, go for it.
