Found a couple of decent 3500 trucks with almost the same options I ordered on the cancelled 2500. Does anyone know what all is different on the 3500 other that the cab lights and beefier rear springs? thanks, Doc

I could be wrong but I believe the rear calipers are bigger. That was posted in a thread back when I bought my truck.

Originally there was a rear end differential gear difference between the two. The 2500 came with a 10. 5 inch rear end unless you got the HO (ETH). All of the 3500's and the 2500 with the HO got an 11. 5 inch rear end. The rear end difference, the rear springs, and the standard cab lights were the only differences. Now, I think the standard cab lights and rear springs are different, certainly so if you are planning on going with the ETH in either size (2500 or 3500. )

I wanted a SRW 3500 but did not want the clearance lights (don't need them, don't like them, don't want leaks from them). Couldn't be done. So I got a 2500 and installed Timbrens for my overload springs.

i don't want cab clearance lights, i don't tow/haul anything at all really, i don't need my weight rating so high [more expensive to register/insure] my 2500 will do me just fine, and i have the GCVW set to 3500kg on the regesteration.

do i need a big diesel powered pickup truck? well no, i could get by driving an echo or civic. now, do i want to be seen driving an import ecconobox? hell no. i like my truck, i want steel around me, i want to sit higher up in traffic than others, i want a diesel engine, i want lots of power, i want it to look good...

just my $0. 02 cdn

I'm not attacking anyone who bought a 2500. :)

I didn't consider the registration/insurance for some people. In NY, I don't think there was a significant difference.

It just seems like it'd be easier to ditch the "2500" and make the clearance lights optional if it's a big deal. I don't think they're legally required on a 3500 SRW anyway, just a dually. But maybe I'm wrong on that.

Here in B. C. , you actually avoid the dreaded luxury tax by buying the 3500. Good enough reason for me to put up with the roof plastic.
