My recently purchased 99 SRW has 3500 emblems on the door, and 8000 lb gvwr on the pillar label. The title is for a 3/4 ton and the insurance agent says the VIN indicates 3/4 ton. The cab has marker lights which I assume are factory installed. Any one know if I have a 2500 or 3500?

It makes no difference what the nameplate on the door says. The official ruling would be what the VIN tells you, in this case it says it is a 2500 that someone thought they could make into a 3500, WRONG. Seems as if the last owner had a truck inferiority complex, wanted to run with the big boys but his truck was just too small.

Dl5treez,

If they had done that, the door tag would have had a 3500 DRW GVWR (11,000 lbs?), not the 8,000 lbs tag. He's definitely got a 2500.

Yea somebody just wanted to put some different emblems on thats all. I did the same thing with my '92 F250 Ford. I put the Power Stroke decals under the F250 emblem. When it came time to sell it I let the owner know that it wasn't a Power Stroke in case he didn't know.

Thanks for all the replies. The dealer (not a DC dealer) represented the truck as a 2500 and I did not even notice the 3500 emblems until a day after picking it up. (Yes, I was so happy to have a Cummins that I only inspected the overall truck for dents, rust and scratches!) I am very pleased after almost 3000 miles of driving it and hope to get my fuel pressure gauge installed this week.
