In general, any diesel powered 2500 Ram is a HD. These came with the #8800 GVW rating. For a while in the 90's, Dodge made a 2500 (ld) with a #7200 GVW. If I remember correctly, they came with a Dana 60 rear and Dana 44 front axle. They were not available with the diesel option.

Looking through my set of dealer brochures, the LD 2500, rated at 7500 GVWR was avaliable from '94-'96 and was avaliable only with your choice of the two V8's. The 2500 HD rated at 8800 pounds came with your choice of 5. 9L V8, V10 or the Cummins.
In '97 and up to '02 it lists the 2500 as a HD model with its 8800 rating.
