I've had mine on the overloads with the same setup I had before with my '01. 5 2500 with Camper pack. The 2500 never hit the overloads but the 3500 does. BTW, there are 2 additional springs(overloads) on my 3500.

Also, I don't know about the frame issue. I do know there is a label on my frame that says "3500". Not sure why that would be there if the frames are the same.

If the only difference between a 2500 and a 3500 is the overload spring, does anyone know what the cost would be to have that added to a 2500 if needed?

Ive had 3000 pounds of rock in the bed of my 2500 with no problem. It was on a wood pallet centered over the rear axel.

There is a slight difference in the frames that I know of. Instead of having overloads that attach solely to the existing leaf pack, the overloads on the 3500s I've seen have stops for the overloads welded onto the frame and the overload springs are mounted to the axle at the center only.

If 2000 lbs sets it on the overloads, they must be an integral part of the suspension, not just a stopping point. Some overloads that I've seen aren't much more than bump stops in function. Besides, I have a friend that hauls 20,000 lbs of big round bales around his families' farm(2000 acres) in his 03 2500 without squating much AT ALL. I've seen it. The distance between the rear tires and the bed only decreases by two inches or less. And that's WITHOUT overloads!

Regardless, I still got the 3500 srw. My friend says that if he buys a new truck, he also would buy a 3500 srw.

Wardog, I believe when I shopped the price difference between the 3500 and the 2500 set up the same way, the 2500 is about $800 less than the 3500. The overload springs, the overload spring stops, and the redneck lights are the only difference between the two.

I ride my truck as a daily driver. My 03 25004x4, quad cab swb was totaled 2 months ago so I went back to same dealer and purchased another truck equipped the same except it is a 3500. Of course it has the new 600 engine. Here is the thing I liked, the ride is identical to the 2500. Hope this helps. NJSilverram

2500/3500

My 2500 does not have overloads but I put air bags on it, some heavy 5th wheelers and horse trailers make it sit down in back,, just put about 50 psi in the air bags and go, when you unhook drop pressure in bags to 5 psi and it rides sooo nice!!

373,000 mile plus and still goingOo.

I would go with the 3500, I have a couple of friends that tow and wish they went with the 3500 srw instead of the 2500. I have ridden in both and the ride is the same, imo. You just get the blessing on the door.
