Correct. . you will gain HP, but also the EGTs and smoke will increase. 275s will not be a problem with excessive smoke or EGTs, but I'm sure DDII's, IIIs etc will! You can run stock intake, stock exhaust, stock turbo with 275s.
275's, EZ, 4" exhaust with an AFE intake on a 6 speed produced about 345hp, can't remember the torque numbers.
However, rfcom- I can and have set the overboost code with just 275's on an HO, so I don't know why you think you can't. You really have to lay into it, but I did it twice.
The above setup is also about the best all-around setup you can have for towing without blowing things up, and the 275's don't seem to smoke too bad. The DD2's WILL smoke pretty bad, seen it up close and personal .
Kev, the numbers you posted were your numbers from a dyno run? Seems kinda high from most threads I've read. I don't think a 4" exhaust and a Mega Cannon will gain me 45hp. No flame intended. Seems to me, and I haven't dyno'd yet, that I should be about 300 rwhp with my setup according to vendors I've spoken with. Sixpack
Injectors alone will not increase boost. I started with the DD1,s and did not change my wastegate. More fuel equaled higher egts. To counter the egts people disable the wastegate, which increases the boost. Increasing the boost without a boost fooler will set the codes. 275,s=40 hp,dd1s=60hp,dd2s=80hp,dd3s=100hp. 40 or 100 its all good enjoy
Sixpack- The numbers given to me were from a local members Dyno run, but no I didn't see it first hand.
I did however see a a truck dyno at 350 with an EZ, DD2's and a 4" exhaust- a 2001 HO, just as was the other. I doubt there is a 50HP difference between the DD2 and the 275's, but I jyst threw that in for reference. I have seen differences of 20hp on identical trucks with the same mods. Go figure.
With the proper wastegate setup, more fuel will result in increased boost. How?
The increased fuel means more exhaust which will spin the turbo faster, which will result in more boost. That is as long as the wastegate has a boost elbow with a restriction in it or a modified wastegate.
Example:
I'm running an early Edge fueling module know as the "Three Light Box". It has settings for Off, Low Med and High. My boost with the box off is about 22 PSI. With it on High it's about 30 PSI.
Maybe someone else can explain it better than that but I do remember reading a thread such as this one many months ago and that same question was asked.
Bought new Bosch 275's for 32. 00 each from the local VW parts house (they buy a lot of Bosch stuff). New units from Bosch. Installed out of the box.
They run great ! Installed a BD boost de-limiter and elbow (59. 00 from BD) with the injectors. I went from max WOT boost of 18 # to max WOT 22+#. I estamate 11. 81 hp per # of boost. Put it around 259 hp as an estamte. The 11. 81 is based on a factory 215 HP with 18# (actually 18. 2). Not haveing a dyno I have to do some assumptions.
Anyhow I like the power level for the price , 250. 00 all in, got me 40 - 50 hp and maybe 80 ft lb + +torque.
No extra black smoke, more power, no codes set. runs smoother, sounds better and about all my auto will take in the long run without upgradeing earlier than I want to. I would strongly recommend the BD boost de-limiter for full performace and insurance in not setting codes. Just information on what I did.
I ordered a set of new Bosch 275s off EBAY from Midwest Fuel INJ Service and they are sitting in the box as I type this.
I'm going to TRY and find a dyno locally (Houston) to get a "baseline" run with the stock injectors first. I have an early model EDGE "three light" fueling module and adjustable boost elbow that I've been running for the last 36,000 miles. I'm just as curious as everyone else to see how much the 275s make a difference.
I want to go out and install these right NOW but I'm going to try and have the patience to get a few dyno runs first.
Also I just remembered, I have a G-TECH Pro sitting in the storage area under my back seat in my RAM. Guess a few runs with that first will be good too. I also have run my RAM at two different NHRA 1/4 mile tracks on "test N tune" night and stock ran an 18. 9 @ 73 and with the EDGE on level 3, averages about 16. 5 @ 86 MPH. Truck weighs 6,740 with me in it and 1/2 tank.
Stock clutch too, which slips some in the winter when it's cold out because the intercooler is so effective. During the summer the clutch is fine even on level 3 with the stock inj. , that is why I went with 275s and not DDIIs. I'm not ready to plunk down a grand for a new clutch just yet!
