Smoke is the primary concern as the smoke police have already been summoned on me twice with just an EZ on my ETH.

Both are advertised at +60hp on a stock ETH. I am keeping the EZ on.

Would appreciate opinions on smoke, power gain and drivability between the two choices.

No problems for me, although Metro pulled me once for smoking a lady out that almost hit me. They just asked what the smoke was about and let me go.

The testing here is silly easy to pass.

I unhook the EZ and have had no problems with the test.

I've got 2 letters in the mail saying "you've been reported... please fix it so we all can breathe. "

They were about 1 year apart, so I don't know if there is any history kept on them. Guess some tree huggers don't have anything else better to do than talk on their cellphone to report smokers while driving.

I passed the joke of an emissions test this at the station on Jones running an EZ on setting 2 and RV 275 injectors, this was in January at about 55 degrees air temp. The kid running it stuck a probe in the tail pipe, I doubt it was an opacity test. I can make a little smoke in the daytime. At night, in front of some HID headlights, it looks a lot worse, but nothing you can't see through. Personally, I try not to smoke, unless it's an exercise in fumegation :D Since I'm not overfueled, I can't make an impressive cloud anyway.

I have some 275 nozzles only if you want to give them a try. I'm curious about tree huggers in Las Vegas. I've flown over and haven't seen any trees. Are the kept inside? I have had 275's and Jammer 1's. Not a big felt difference. But I don't think the 1's smoke as much as the 275's.

Yeah, they're kept inside the city where there are plenty of trees - all planted by man of course. I'm not kidding - Vegas has the worst pollen I've experienced. Turns your car green in the spring.

I came here from Maryland by way of Bombay, India and never had any alergy problems, before Vegas. Funny thing, my 18 year old son is just the opposite. He used to get hammered in Maryland, and is fine in Vegas.

I'd like to try the 275 nozzles. I'll PM you.

Neil,

How do you like the RV275's. Wish you went bigger?

I'll stand by my decision to get an EZ and RV 275 injectors. I bought each used from TDR members for a total cost of $550. No further upgrades required, my stock clutch has been great. I estimate it was an 80-85 at-the-wheels HP improvement, quite the bargain. I will admit that after the EZ, adding the RV 275's wasn't that impressive. But adding bigger injectors and slipping the clutch wouldn't have impressed me well either. You know the sayings - "Pay to Play", and when "You are your own warrentee station", you pay.

But power is addictive. So I've been working on the infrastructure - upgraded intake, exhaust, fuel supply, and scheduled for a Southbend ConOFE clutch. Then I'll be able to add fuel, starting with F1 Mach 1. 6 injectors on order. After that I haven't decided. The CaTCHer ECM is getting rave reviews from drivers. Dyno kings aren't so impressed, but for me, power I can use is far more valuable than just power I can make. I think the smallish (Mach 1. 6) injectors, CaTCHer, and a fueling box like a TST PM3 or DD UFM would offer the ulimate in drivability, emissions control, economy, and power adjustability for daily driving, towing and playing. So that's my current long range plan. There's probably an exhaust manifold and turbo upgrade in my future too, but not before tires.

The trick is to figure out what's most useful for you. I didn't go the big injector route even though they make lots more power easily. For me, having drivability issues, smoke control sensitivity, EGT worries, emissions test concerns, and probably lower MPG takes a lot of the fun out of full-time power. The way I see it, being able to use 100% of 90 HP is better than only being able to use 50% of 150 HP. Cost less too. Your results may vary.

Enjoy thinking about it.

Neil,

I smoked my clutch with just the EZ. Have never dynoed, so maybe my clutch was weak, or maybe my motor was already stronger from the factory for some reason. So far the Centerforce dual friction has held up - put it in about a year ago.

I tow a 10K trailer so don't want to go too big on the injectors or run into EGT problems. I PMed RonA to get his 275s and try them out.

I've kept an eye on the Catcher, but don't want to dump a bunch more money into the motor right now. If I had the choice between Catcher and EZ today, I'd certainly go Catcher - in fact I'd do the standard Catcher and dump the EZ. But it took a couple of years to get to the point where the EZ made sense, and now a couple more years to think about the injectors. But I'm really hoping that different injectors will clean up some of the smoke that I keep getting reported on.

Neil,

If smoke is a concern, I wouldn't bother with 275s. I certainly saw no improvement. My research leads me to believe that the F1 Mach 1. 6 injectors are the cleanest over stock. I also run Stanadyne Performance, which, among other things, is advertised to reduce smoke. Hohn did a detailed write up on the Filch Fuel Catalyst and its positive effects on combustion.

Neil

I upgraded from 275's to F1 Mach 1. 5's a few months ago and I am thinking about going back to the 275's. The 1. 5's run great but the smoke is much worse. I pull a 21' Skeeter bass boat all over East Texas and with the 1. 5's, my boat is covered in smoke and soot after each trip and I am driving very conservative. I now have to bring the rpm much higher when shifting to help control the smoke between gears.

When I upgraded injectors I was under the impression that the EDM injectors would run cooler, cleaner and possible more efficient but none of these have been true on MY pickup. I know that each pickup is different but this is what I am seeing on my 2001.

NPS.

Do you have a place to get the nozzles swapped out? Like I said they are nozzles only, not complete injectors.

Not a problem getting them swapped. Are you interested in selling them if I want to keep them?

Thanks.

I have about the same set up as you do :) Still with the stock clutch :D

Knok on wood :D

Dsherman,

What is the boost cooler you speak of? Is it the Snow Performance Water/Methanol kit, without using methanol?

Neil
