ATS three piece manifold

question about buying

Can anyone tell me if its a good deal for a local diesel shop-with a good reputation,te sell me and install a set of 275 hp nozzles for $307. They said they would just be swaping my stock nozzles out and putting in the 275hp nozzles,so I don't think its a complete injector-just the bigger nozzles. It was 220 for the nozzles and 87 for the install. Also, how much hp and torque could I expect to increase with the nozzle upsize?
Thanks.

It sounds like he is quoting the nozzles for a 24 valve engine (HP and price). The 97 12 valve automatic has 180 hp injectors and can be replaced with the 215 hp injectors (230 HP injectors may cause rough idle). The installed price will probably be $500 or more and will give you 20 to 30 more HP. If you want more power, have a larger fuel plate installed (you might want to upgrade the transmission first).

Boldt's Wagon, when I talked to the shop, I made sure he knew I had the 12V, and what we talked about as far as the nozzles go,he said it was the same ones they use on the marine engine and rv's. I asked him what kind of difference in ower could I expect and he said close to 40hp increase and around 90 ft/lb increase in torque. Does this all sound reasonable to you? Also, the price he quoted me was $307 for both the nozzles and installing them, plus he would keep my stock nozzles.
Can you expand on why bigger nozzles might roughen up the idle?
I'm new to the diesel world and learn alot reading here,so any comments are definitely appreciate it before I spend the money.

As far as I know, there is no 275 hp version of the 12 valve. The marine 300 nozzles are a poor choice.
Second, nozzles alone if new cost as much as complete injectors usually. Assembling and balancing them runs the price way up if done right.
Third, $87 for installation means their labor rate is low or they are doing a quick and dirty job.
Fourth, 215 injectors and parts are unusually expensive. Nice, low mileage, cleaned and balanced 215s complete are available at times (I have a couple sets) but if you want to pay the pirce of new injectors, you might as well consider the Diamond B 370 hp injectors too, for a bigger gain at similar $.

Joseph, can you tell me more about the diamond b injectors. How come the 300hp marine injectors are a poor choice? Any recommendations on better than stock injectors for increased hp would be appreciated. I've also thought about changing the current fuel plate out for a better one. I have the 30hp plate from BD. I thought about the TST 250hp plate. Wasn't sure if it was better to add better injectors to my current plate or just swap for a stronger plate and leave the injectors alone.
As far as the shop goes, they have a good reputation locally, and they have done a couple things for me in the past.

I forgot to mention,on Carl's group purchase page there are some Bosch 275hp rv injectors sold by Diesel Transmission Tech. I had called them this past week about them. He said they have sold them to 12V Rams. Were they mistaken on thata-these injectors wont work for me?Thanks

If DTT they said they're selling them to 12V people then they should be getting phone calls from the purchasers with questions as to why they won't fit. 24V injectors take about 2-3 hrs to install and $87 would be close to right on a 24V. Also like Joe says there aren't 275 injectors for 12Vs. I think bang for the buck the 370s are prolly the way to go, just depends on how far you're willing to take it.

So what kind of hp and torque increase should I see from the 370's,and who sells them and about how much are they?

[This message has been edited by vc (edited 12-03-2000). ]

Don't know exactly how much hp/torque increase since I never dyno'd my truck, but I can tell you it is a whole bunch more. John P has about the same set up as me and he dyno'd his truck at 381hp/1069lbs torque. I personally saw his dyno sheet and rode in his truck. His truck is a lot faster than mine since mine weighs in at 8500 lbs with the tool boxes and equipment I carry, plus the headboard acting as a huge wind resistance factor. TST says their #5 plate will give the 96 auto 270hp/670lbs torque... . you can do the math. You won't be disappointed with the 370s, everyone I know who installed them has been pretty happy with the power increase. Good thing about injectors is that it gives you power from idle on up. 370s will cost about $450-500, depends where you get them. I heard there is more than one kind of 370s, make sure you get the Diamond B's.

I would also like to own these 370 injectors. I thought you had to have bigger delivery valves to accomadate the injectors. Is this true? Who sells these injectors? How much can expect to pay for delivery valves?

Thanks

I have a set of injectors "Robert Bosch" part number 0 432 133 864. I was told that these are 175 HP injectors? I have had them for a while but, haven't installed them as time has not alowed. I also have a set of gauges to install, again time has not alowed.
If there are not any 175 HP injectors for the 12 valve engine, can anyone identify these injectors by the part numbe?? I would like to know before I install them.

Thank you,
Robert

vc:

The entry posted by "Koa Man" is
exactly right. He was the one who
helped me decide to get the 370
injectors for my truck.

These injectors make a HUGE
difference in the way these
trucks run. As "Koa Man" said
my truck was placed on the dyno
at the "Scheid Diesel" rally
back in September and had 381
H. P. /1069 torque. Check out
my detailed entry/post on the
370 injs. in the "12 Valve
Archives. " It is titled
"370 injs. ,gov. sprg kit,
AFC sprg. kit WOW". I tried
to really detail how the mods
changed the performance of the
truck. You will NOT be sorry
on the performance difference.
Joe Donnelly can get these
injectors for you and so can
Piers at BD. It is my under-
standing that there are
different 370 injs. so be
sure you get the right ones!

Good luck! E-mail me if you
need more information on
these.

Sixkill,

Your best bet for the 370s` would be Piers @ BD Power, or Joe Donnelly.

The delivery valves can be found at Jannety Racing, BD power or maybe Joe D. Expect to pay about $300. You`ll need a special socket to install them. ( see in the middle of the picture)

Thanks for all the info guys. John-P,I'll look into te archives. I'm going to get my gauges in and then go from there.
Sixkill, email J Donnely for injectors-he'll do you right on those.

I am pretty sure you will need to change delivery valves with the 160hp pump in order to run the 370s. Strick9 has a '94 with the 160hp pump and he had to change his delivery valves to get rid of a bad stumble around 1100-1200 rpm. The 96 and later pumps should work just fine.

OK guys you really got me confused now.

The stock injectors with an auto's are 180's.
Manuals in the 97-98 range have a 215 injector.

98. 5 & up ISBs only use the 275 injector.

What "performance injectors" are available for the 12 valve engine?

What is the difference between 215's versus 275's versus 375's injectors?

I'm trying to get my bombing list written before I do stupid things by pouring cash in worthless projects or, even worse, install engine/tranmsission damaging projects.

Can someone set me straight?

Several companies, Diesel Dynamics, JRE, and BD market their own injectors. Or you can get standard Bosch 215 or 370 injectors. Don't know off hand what the various aftermarket injectors cost or the amount of hp increase they provide, but if I had to chose between the 215s and 370s, I would get the 370s since the cost between THESE two isn't that great.

Whoever at DTT told you that injector info. was definately mistaken. While we have injectors for 12 valves the 275's are for the 24 valve.
We specialize in automatic transmissions and transmission accessories and how they relate to a diesel engine.
Just wanted to clarify any mis-understanding.

PS/
im still looking for the spark plugs on the diesel engine, anyone out there that found them please be sure to let me know.
