285-75-16 spare tire??

Been running my 285s for a while now. Love em. But, on my way down to Nashville, TN this week. . got to thinking. What would happen if I got a flat? Having the rear anti-slip, its out of the question back there to install the smaller 245 spare. On front, wouldn't it have a hard pull to the side with the tire? Is it managable enough to drive until you can get the 285 fixed?

I've tried to install a 285 as a spare... didn't work very well. I don't know what to do.

You could put it in the bed, or get one of those "4 wheelers get the hell out of my way" front bumper mounts. I was considering this because I want to get the 40 gallon spare tire fuel tank.

BTW are your 285 75 16's load range-E ? I got 265's because they told me theyre the largest tire with the E rating??

Eric, you don't HAVE to get E-rated tires, not even if you are running at max gross weight all the time. You HAVE to get a tire rated for the weight. There are a lot of D-rated 285/75/16's out there that are rated to carry MORE weight safely than an E-rated 245 or 265. Look at the maximum rated weight capacity for the tires, if they are rated for the weight get them regardless of size or letter rating.

stock spare goes. I had NO PROBLEM
putting it up there and it has been

No comments regarding running the two diff size tires on the front. I have the same problem. So far no flat. But what happens when it does. My current plan is to put the spare on the front, move the front to the rear, and drive slow to the nearest place to get it repaired.

Since the front end is an open diff, are there any problems with short distance, slow driving in this configuration. Seems like this cant be much different that those POS spares they are putting in cars. Or is it?

The problem I see with going to a large spare is it will interfere with the way the 4" BD is mounted. Considering the full turbo back in the future. Plan to correct this then.

Slybones, that is my plan too. Put the front on the back and put the spare on the front. Should be fine for a while.

Worst case scenero is a flat on one of the rears. Put a 285 from the front to replace the rear and put the 245 on the front and drive it.

My 285 75 16 fit where the spare would normaly go with no problem at all. Did you try a brand new tire? Mine was the best of the old ones that I took off so it would have lost a little on the diameter by the treads being worn out. Something to think about.

Deezal Man, I have a NEW BFG All-Terrain 285/75R16 spare mounted on an "extra" 16x8 M/T Alcoa Challenger wheel. Even with a Bestop tire cover installed on the spare it still fits (JUST barely) between the frame rails.

I did however, have to come up with a plan to provide adequate clearance between my (285) spare tire and my Mag-Hytec diff. cover. I modified my spare tire winch cable assembly and fabricated an offset mounting adapter plate for the spare... problem solved. Theft Protection?... I added a Mopar/McGard security lock as well as a "Nukeproof" cable lock... and then there's the alarm system. That should keep it from walking away in the night.

BTW, there is NO interefernce with the 285 spare and my Banks 4" diameter exhaust system.

I have never seen a 285/75R16 tire in load range E.

No, my 285's are D rated. I did however compare the lbs rating on the factory "E" rated Goodyears. The "D" rated 285 Bridgestone carry a slightly higher lbs rating.

Maybe I did something wrong. but it seemed as if the 285 was rubbing against the exhaust pipe. I'll try it again.

Deezal man, I have the 285 Bridgestones as well, and I can't get it to fit in the normal spare tire area. Did yours fit?
