Still want more info, education, knowledge, if I should consider a upsizing on my 03' 2WD 3500. I currently have the Chrome STEEL clad wheels with 265 X 70 X 17 Highway Style Michelins.

Understand I have a Highway cruise trailer puller... ... ...

I may or may not be putting max weight in bed (camper ???) while towing 9,000# enclosed car trailer... ... ... .....

Thanks

Normally bigger tires equal less MPG. Mine went down by about 1 to 1. 5 when I went from 285s to 315s. It is worth the better look tho.

Does any one know if the 285s help or hurt fuel mileage compared to stock 265s?

On my commute I lost about 2mpg going from my worn 265/70 Michelins to 285/75 Nitto Dura-Grapplers. But out on the highway it is about the same.

Thanks guys, I just got this truck. Door sticker shows 265/70R17E. Tires are 285/70R17 Hankook dyna pro MT, these are almost new. I will agree the larger tires do look better but I drive a lot of miles and need the best fuel mileage I can get. So if I went back to a BF Goodrich rugged trail TA I would increase mileage at high way speeds? Dont matter to me about in town mileage. The speed o meter is correct for the 285s on thew truck at this time. Does every one agree is does this need debate?

I want those 2005 Polished Alum Wheels, but I'm too far way. I think those were BEST 3rd Gen OEM wheel.

I dont care for the Chrome PLASTIC Clad Covers on 07-08's

My 2WD has 265x75x17 Michelins LTX/AS. THey seem to run very smooth and quiet on the highway, where my 2WD will stay.

At COSTCO I was shown a brochure and told that the AS Michelin doesnt come any bigger than 265... ... ... ... . whereas the A/T2's come up to 285's

What can I expect in terms of road noise, etc etc from Michelins A/T2 vs my A/S

Also the 285 measures slightly over 1" more in dia than a 265..... What might that do fuel milage. I can never remember if the larger dia lowers my 3:73 ratio or raises it ????

Thanks to all,

I can't answer all of those questions, but I do have an '04 2500 2WD with 285/70/17 BFG A/T's. You can find pics of my truck with this setup in my photo gallery. I went from 265/70/17's to these 285's and I can tell you that fuel mileage did decrease slightly, but not much (just about 2 MPG less on the highway; hand calculated; distance traveled corrected for tire size). I do like that my final gear ratio ends up being just a smidge taller with these tires, however I also tend to run fairly briskly on the highway (80 mph or so). With the taller 285, it will effectively lower (the number) your 3. 73 gear ratio - giving you more like a 3. 68 or something.

BTW, my BFG's are actually retreads from TreadWright.com. I've got nothing to gain be recommending this company, but this is my second set of tires from them and I've been extremely impressed with the value.

What ever brand you go with make sure you get the load rating E. The BFG AT 285/70/17 come in both LR D and LR E.

Below is what BFG said about them.

The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO in size LT285/70R17 LRE is of different construction than the LRD version. As you mentioned the LRE version has a higher maximum psi capability. The LRD version was chosen as OE for the

2009 Dodge Ram 2500.
