What brand and milage have you gotten from your tires?

I will be installing new tires very soon.

Are you happy with the tires?

What do you recommend?

I don't think you can beat Michelin, either LTX/MS or AT's. They cost a little more but I think they are the best tire made. You should get 60-70K from a set if you keep them rotated and balanced. Let us know what you get :)

I had two Michelin 2657516 LTX sidewalls fail.

The dealer that replaced the last one said he sees a few on our trucks.

I think they are weak sidewalls and are overpriced!!!

Bob, you need to buy the Michelin XPS Tractions, they are recappable all steel construction. Good for off road use where the sidewall can fail.

Bob, sorry just noticed from your profile that you are using the 10ply Open Country, tire guy here in Springfield has been trying to sell me a set, he says they are real heavy duty tires. How do you like your Open Country tires? Do you take them off road? Based on where you live and how your truck is equipped I bet the answer is "Yes".

Right now I have 80,000mi on my BFG 285/75/16 all terrains, and I will get another 2,000mi out of them before I buy a new set of the same tires. Nothing else holds a candle to the tires! This is with countless burnouts, dyno runs and drag racing.

Mileage is hard to gage if you go taller than the specifiied tire. A taller tire is making fewer rotations than shorter tire..... and the shorter one is what the speedo is calibrated to. So basically, if you have a taller tire, you will register less miles per hour and fewer miles on the odometer.

If you're doing mostly highway driving, taller tires are better for fuel mileage. If you're doing more city driving, shorter tires are better.

If you want a tire that looks good and you don't give a crap about mileage, it's your choice. :D

I've got a set of Michelin 265/75/16's that I will get 65 to 70K out of before they get replaced. No problems at all on my 89. 5 2500. I have pulled some excessively heavy loads.

I have a question ...

For folks that have owned / used the Michelin LTX and XPS traction tires, which would you recommend, and why ... The XPS are about $200 more, but can be regroved ... I do not mind spending the money, if there is a good reason to do so ...

AND curious about size. Some folks have recommended the 235 / 85 / 16's and others suggest the 265 / 75 / 16's ...

Comments / prior experience are welcomed. send email to -- email address removed -- if you want to talk in private ...

Many thanks !!!

I was going to buy the Tractions but stayed with the LTX/MS. My reason was that I don't go off road and I don't need that much sidewall strength that the Tractions give. If you go off road or you need really good winter tires then go with the Tractions. The 235/85/16's should give better snow traction than the 265's.

Agreed. . I got 65k out of my last set, (not including the 7% extra that the odo doesnt show due to them being bigger).

That was my 4th set, and have had great luck with them. Never had one fail. The only drawback is theyre not as aggressive off-road as id like, but for all around , you cant beat them. Their definitely tough with their extra sidewall ply.

I have a set of Kelly 285-75-16

s on my truck and just replaced a pair because my wife dropped it off a culvert and cut a sidewall... they have over 80,000 miles on them and would have gotten at least another 20,000 out of them. They are D rated but that is 3,300 pounds each at 65psi.

Are those the Kelly MSR radials? My dad has that size on his Ford and they look really great.

Has anyone run the Bridgestone Dueler MT mud tires?

How do the Bridgestone ATs compare with BF Goodrich?

Blake

The Kelly's that I have are AWR's... not as agressive a tread as the MSR's. But I have never managed to get it stuck in the mud even with the 35 foot goose neck horse trailer behind it. But I have had to clean mud off the top of the horse trailer:--)
