296k on 1/2 ton dodge

my dad bought a load of square bales from a guy yesterday, after we loaded i pulled it out of this guys shed to fininsh strapping it down. then this guy says the usual,"you want me to go get my ford to pull that for ya" i laughed and said we'd be fine. what i found funny was this guy's farm truck was a half ton dodge(not his big bad ford) with 296k on it, to which he addmitted that they beat the s&*$ out of the truck. thought that was quite impressive of a beat up old gasser.

Did you happen to ask what engine/trans and if they were original? I know a couple of guys around here that have very high mileage gassers but the engines have been replaced several times.

dont know for sure but he acted like the motor was original but who knows bout the trany. guessing it had the smaller v-8 in it. i know it was a v-8 for sure though. was an early 2nd gen. i would say. i know what you mean about high mile gassers. my g-pa had an early 90's with a 3 speed and a 318 that he sold with over 250k and it was in great running order yet. dodge has been the king of trucks for a long time in my mind.
