I've got 2k miles on my truck and I'm leaving to go on a 2k mile trip pulling my 30' 5th wheel. I'm thinking of not chainging the oil till I get back. Anyone think I'm making a mistake here?

Thanks

Similar to what I did

On mine, did NO towing for 1400 miles, then towed about half the time until I had the first change done at a dealer at 3868 miles. With just short of 24K on it now I have never had the dipstick show any oil consumption, and change it about every 6500 to 7000 miles. (Dello 400 happens to be my choice, BTW)

You should be good, but I would keep an eye on the dipstick and have some oil available... Best insurance that you won't need it.

You should be fine Dave, but if it made you feel better consider changing the oil filter. There's the possibility it's accumulated some break-in debris so a new filter might not hurt if you're ready to hit the road.

Go for it. My first oil change in my '03 was a 5K. At less than 500 miles on the ODO I hooked up to our big 14K fiver and pulled hard through the mountains. 36,000 miles now and it uses less than one pint between 5K oil changes.

Thanks all that's what I'm planning on doing! I'll actually change it when I get back from my trip. Just wanted some reassurance.....

I change every 5000 miles here my reason

I know the Gov, did a study about this and that when they change. I have two diesel trucks and that what I do.
