93 ford auto transmission question

Madison, WI - 'Metro' buses = barking turbos

Good news and bad news.

Good, I got my girlfriend hooked on Dodge CTDs.

Bad, she wants to show me up and get an '03 or '04.

Ok, so it's not bad news, I would be more than happy for her to get one.

I am kind of stuck on the 2nd Gens. I have one (see sig). It would be nice to have a more spacious truck since mine is only a reg cab.

She prefers the quieter common-rail and doesn't plan on modifying it however she does want the 6 speed.

She is not sure what she wants. She would be happy with the 24 Valve 2nd gen but wants something that will last forever. I know the 2nd gens will BUT she has found some 3rd gens for the same price with better financing and rebate options.

I am all for her doing this. She currently has a lifted Jeep Liberty auto and is not getting great mileage.

She is torn between paying a higher price for a new, low miles, quieter, crew cab (yes, I know) OR an older 24 valve HO/SO quad cab with higher miles and thousands cheaper.

Thoughts, comments, dos/don'ts?!?!

Thank you!

Nick

Why does she want a 6-speed?

Since you are in Colorado, take a look at ATS in Wheat Ridge right outside of Denver. It is a whole lot easier to drive an Automatic than a Stick, and the way they are building these now, they are really strong.

She said, "He**" no" to me giving her mine and me getting a new one. She wants the 6-speed because she likes rowing :) No auto for either of us.

Besides, the "lady" gets the new one, haha. Besides, I am Bombing mine so...

I know she will let me drive it when I want to :D

I will let you know if and when "we" get one!

Nick

If you want the bigger QC, then go with the 3rd Gen Ram. Since she will be driving it, I would go with the QC/SB so it will be easier to drive around town.

Just my . 02 euro cents worth. :p

Ben

Go with the 3rd Gen.

She is gonna wish she had the quieter one otherwise. Ya'll can come down and check mine out anytime, just PM me. I'll even let you take it up Floyd Hill!

Financing depreciating assets is what keeps "middle america" on the verge of bankruptcy.

Yep, I let my GF drive the auto truck and she took to it pretty well. When she pays off the car and saves up some money, she'll be getting a 2nd gen for cash.

I'm stuck on the 2G's. With the EPA driving the auto industry, there's no telling how long the current CR will be on the market. It's just too easy to maintain, fix-up, and BOMB a paid-for 2G--and they look better, parts are more plentiful, BOMBS are developed ;).

Quiet? She likes his doesn't she? Blanket the valve cover and oil pan. Cover the rear cab panel and inside the doors. Quiet enough. See lsfarm for more details.

If you do finance, remember that term NOT interest is the killer.

Thanks for all the kind words and help.

Yes, she definitely is a keeper.

She needs the QC cause of her 3 little girls. The other day she asked her oldest, Brianna, 7, if she would care if she sold the Jeep. Brianna said not to. Then later she drove past a 2nd Gen by Brianna's school and said, "ok, what if I sell the Jeep to buy something like that?", pointing to the Jeep. Brianna said "Yeahhhh"

Also, her 2 and a half year old rode in my truck, had a big grin on her face all the way to dinner. Gotta start them young.

And yes, her and I have both test driven the new ones. They do sell themselves, very true.

KBennet, she wants one just like yours. Very nice.

Thanks guys.

Nick (Mackenzie thanks you too).

My wife drove my truck for a few days early this year.

She bought an 03 HO Quad cab for herself within 2 weeks. Yes, she also insisted on the 6 speed and 3. 73 posi rear end.

Not all women are dainty little helpless things.

Mine is intelligent enough to know that the 6 speed is going to be more reliable over the long haul.

Sounds like yours is the same way. Buy her that 6 shooter quad cab before she gets away. You've got a keeper.

3G.

The 2G is like rock and roll music.

The 3G is like smooooooooooooooooooth jazz on a starlight night. Of course that smooooooooooooooooth jazz can rip the chrome off of a trailer ball hitch in 0. 034 seconds at the blip of a throttle.

Seriously, the 3G's are nicer, more refined and an awesome vehicle.
