Is there a way to install a 2nd battery in the engine compartment of a 93 D250 4x4 diesel? If so where does it go? Is there a dual battery tray available or do the batteries have to be placed on opposite sides of the engine compartment?

There's not exactly room on the right side with the stock air inlet in place. I've looked at moving the single battery on mine to help balance the left offset engine and it ain't gonna happen. Best I could come up with was to hang it off the right side of the frame behind the cab. Which I haven't done.

I just finished installing 2 Exide 78DT-104 NASCAR extreme batteries in my "93. Turned sideways they fit quite nicely in the old battery tray I. I will be moving the angled brace in the back about a half in. to the rear but otherwise they fit very nicely. The CCAs for the two combined is 1580 - spins quite well. The batteries are the heavy duty option for Chev Suburbans and gas powered vehicles.

Why do you need two? I've always been extremely impressed with the ability of these trucks to fire in any weather with only one battery. I've two in my boat but we run the electronics a lot without the engine running and you don't want to be surprised 25 miles at sea.

I'm about to do 2 batterys, but because I have a big system and it's the same as putting a powercap. I bought two 2nd gen batterys from costco and like Bob said they fit nicely sideways on the old battery tray, just make your own bracket and maybe weld somthing on the tray to hold the bottom of the batteries.

I can see needing more battery for a winch, but where's the room? The stock large battery fills the stock tray and about all the room available on the left side. Hanging a really big one off of the frame would work. Having the huge stock battery for the Cummins is a big step in the right direction for running a winch anyway.

I installed two Optima's in the space of the orginal battery! Not a big deal.

I have 2 batteries in my 93 ( now a 78, but the bodies are the same, except for the body lines). first i got an aftermarket airfilter, and re positioned it under the hood. i took the radiator overflow tank and turned it 90 degrees, so it was comming out from the radiator, not running parallel to it. then i took another battery tray and bolted it to the rad. core support, and then to the fender. it wasnt hard, only an hour or so. and you can tell the difference... !
