Can a second fuel tank work on gravity feed into the factory fuel tank?

Yes!

We have several trucks setup with tanks in box that are plumbed into the vent line with a "T" in the vent line. You can either use a ball valve and manually open and close or add a solinoid valve to control flow on the fly from a switch inside cab.

We do NOT have return lines, do NOT have inline filters, and do NOT have punps. We do build the tanks to suck directly off the bottom of the axillary tank.

I have transferred about 6,000 gallons trough the axillary tank in my truck alone.

It is simple, it works!

Thanks for the information JJW_ND. My biggest concern was if the fuel from the auxillary tank would spill out the fill cap with gravity pressure. Thanks again.

With no pump pushing fuel, gravity just quits running. Trust me, we have forgot to shut of the solinoid valve many times.

The only downside to gravity with no return vent, is flow slows as tank gets empty. It is not very fast to began with.

I was able to pass enough fuel to stay ahead of 8 mpg on one very hard pull/trip.
