Opinions AEM Workhorse

feedback on new AFE intake?

I would have thought more people would have jumped on this thread with all the smart talk these days... ... ...

OK, more would if this was in the Product R&D section like all the other Smarty threads. :D

That said, I found it now.

Quite a few of us auto guys are looking for a fix for the stacked shift problem (transmission goes from 3rd to lockup/OD at once, tending to fall on its face a bit). Marco and Bob are working this I was told... ... ... ... ... . but no solution yet.

How do you move a thread to the R&D section? I want to make sure that we get as much input as possible. With that being said keep them coming!!!

If we're dreaming here, I'd like to see some safety features like those offered by the competition.

  • Defueling at a settable EGT point.
  • Defueling when engine is below normal operating temperature.

Then I'd worry less when my wife drives the truck :-laf

Fuelish behavior

I also would like the high idle enabled when I want it. Other than that I think the smarty is at it's max with the VP. That's why we have the great wire tap for that extra hp.

Yeah... I agree it probably is at its max with the vp, but this is only a wish list hoping that Marco still has a few tricks up his sleeves. I would be happy if he could find a way to turn on/off high idle on my 99, but if not... . I'm still happy with it the way it is.

Back when the smarty was in development stage I remember him saying that he was going to change the program a bit because it smoked a little too much, etc. So if had had to guess I think that there would be more room for adjustment.

Again, user control of high idle and 3cyl high idle. Less throttle response on the low end. Like under 1500 rpm or so or maybe something like adjustable aggressiveness of the throttle (for those of us using large vp44 pumps with modified injectors). Basically speaking, more user adjustment and control. More power never hurts either!!!

Keep them coming guys. Wonder what Bob Wagner has to say on any of this? What would be possible from his view point... .

I would like a resolution to the PIA stacked shift issue also. High idle on demand through the cruise switch if possible would be nice.

On the vp44 as stated we are limited unless we tap it and run another comp for extra fueling. This is where the 3rd gens are at a huge advatage. for this reason I don't think a competition program is possible. But I think that it would be possible to eliminate high rpm like a redline box or similar product for the guys that would like that kind of rpm.

I think that we all agree that the most important thing is the control of high idle & 3 cylinder. That would be the greatest thing for me. The higher rpm defuel would be a big +, but I am happy with it the way it is. If the smarty were to get a more aggressive competition program... . My clutch would be in trouble for sure.

Since were wishing, how about an adjustable rpm limiter. I dont necessarly want to do away with the rev limiter but would like to raise it. It would scare the hell out of me watching my tach spin like a fat man stepping on a midget scale.

How about letting the user set idle speed? Could be an option when selecting which SW to flash, then choose idle speed, then flash.

Maybe 250 was a little lower than I had in mind. :-laf But the BTA and QSB ( marine engines) idle typically around 650, much quieter and more ralaxed than the 850-900 I have in my 24V. I see that there potentially is an issue with tight converters, but a little lower than stock should be OK I guess.

I agree, adjustable (or lower) idle speed would be awesome! Rev limiter of 4000 or more. Less fuel until engine has at least 170*.

I would like to see higher RPM's, I personally am fine with the fueling curve so far, having had the truck on the dyno several times and being able to see the power band with and without smarty with and w/o comp box, w smarty the power band is great, but because of the defueling the band takes a NOSE dive. Extending it would help ALOT for the competion trucks.
