My 2001 has cracks going from front to back.

Cliff

EDIT: from the windshiels to the back of the dash. The rest of the truck is good, Just a little rust on the bottom drivers side door.

I have a crack thru the middle of the dash. Another inch from the front and it will be in half. I emailed Daimler Chrysler from their web site under "send us an email" link here:

http://www.dodge.com/webselfservice...recall&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm('R')

I got a email reply today to call the Damilier Chrysler Customer Assistance Center 1-800-992-1997 to give them more info.

I was finally transfered to a Senoir Staff Member who finally told me to go the dealer to have the damage assesed. The dealer will then contact Chrylser with the reference number I was given. Then Chrylser will make a determination on resolving the problem.

I will keep you informed.

Hmmmm - you guys have me wondering now. I've got an '01 with the charcoal or agate dash, absolutely no cracks so far, not even where I cut the hole for the wires and stuff for my gauge pod. Maybe the hole provided just enough stress relief in just the right place??

Took it to dealer and they looked at it... told me my dash was cracked all right. Then they wanted $86 to take it into the service bay and inspect it more and take pics of it. I said no thanks. You can see its cracked and what more can they do. Sooo. . I'll call back Damilier Chrysler Customer Assistance and see if they will let me send them a pic.

Oh yeah... a new dash was $1000+ That's the whole dash. They don't show the top as a seperate piece.

A Body Shop I go to replaced mine with an after marked dash for $200 plus an hour labor, if memory serves. The Sun will crack any of them. Hope yours is still under warranty. Dealers will Rip you Off !!!!!!!!!!!

One of the very first accessories I invested in was a high quality dash mat and I park it under the car-port whenever possible sfsg.

You were smatter than me, I waited until I had mine replaced and my friend who owns the body shop where I had it done told me to get a matt so I did.

my 99 has a charcoal dash and is cracked in about ten places Genos has a plastic cover that snaps over the top of the old one so you have to tear out (from what i understand) for only $130

2001

mines a 2001 and the dash is tan and cracked horribly huge gapping whole i hate it but i have a dash mat so it helps me not see it but i know its still under there !

If you guys are thinking of getting a new one it might be a good idea to do it soon. I ordered one ($150) and the dealer used my VIN for color code, but the new one came in gray, not dark brown. It turns out that 97s only come unpainted now, so I have to shuck out about $40 more for paint and primer. #@$%!

Do you have a PN for the 97 dash. The dealer I went to said I needed the whole dash (not just the top piece) and it costs $1100+. $150 sounds a lot better than $1100. I'd like to get a grey one for my 97.

Thanks,

Dave

No problem, just happen to have the brand new receipt.

Part Number / Description is 5EY72RD5 I/PANEL INSTRU 23033109

Might be too much info, but I'm sure the genius behind the counter can figure it out... ... ... . or you could go to a different dealer.

Thanks. Maybe he can figure out what I want if I give him the PN. I'll see which dealer has it. I figured the top part of the dash must come off. It must be easy to replace too.

Maybe I can find a grey one.

Thanks

Dave
