New transmission, new performance torque converter or just a rebuild?

I am looking to buy a 07 3rd gen 3500 with the 5. 9 I have a 99 2nd gen 2500 right now and thanks to the block 53 it has a whole new engine. I love my truck and don't want to get rid of it but I'm needing a bigger truck now.

My question is: I was wondering if anyone put the engine from a 2nd gen into a 3rd gen. The motor in the 07 is good but I was trying to make sure if I did have a problem I would have a motor without putting all that money into rebuilding one sense I already have one.

I have seen someone put a 99 into an 04 and said electrical was a nightmare. If I was going to do it I would want to change the fuel system and everything. Use the ECM and get rid of the VP and use the common rails system, so use my engine as a long block.

What I was wondering is if anyone has done this or knows if you can?

Don't know if 3rd gen injectors will fit in a 2nd gen head or you need to change heads?

Looking for advice

Thanks

Doing just because one can is about the only positive. The CR is a far better much more efficient engine than a 24V. Electrical is a total nightmare and pretty much a hack even if you can get things to work. The value lost in replacing the CR engine makes it a non-starter in most cases, and, in a lot of places it is illegal. Chances of getting caught may be a low percentage but doesn't change the outcome. In case of an engine failure still a whole lot more effective and simpler to find a used CR or a shirt block for replacement.

Last but not least, for reliability a VP engine is a bad choice. A 12V would be much more reliable but that presents a whole other set of problems.

Also are you in an area that does emissions testing? If so the 99 engine would need to be brought up to the 07 emissions standards.

There are a ton of differences between the 2 engine blocks. Piston designs, cam profiles, compression ratios, sensors and locations just to name a few. I don't know that you would ever get a VP block to run correctly with a CR fuel system. You would be better off selling the 2nd gen truck as a whole and using the money to fix the other truck, IF there ever was an engine issue. For the most part the engines in any of the generations of trucks will run hundreds of thousands of miles with basic mainentance.

Living in Ca with the strictest emission laws, I know hands down that a 99 can never be brought up to the standards of a 2007.

they don't do emission test on diesel 07 and before in my area. JR I think you answered my question I wasn't sure how much was different or if it was even possible. I'm hoping that the 07 will run a long time just wanted to see if it was possible. I really like the CTD and the look of dodge but after getting a block 53 and having to replace a motor at 85000 miles it makes you a little gun shy. I never was a chevy guy and I do like ford but I wont buy a 6. 0 or 6. 4 powerjoke.
Thanks

If anybody can figure a way to a 12 VALVE into a 3'rd gen truck,,,i'd be all over that for my 07 Megacab 4X4 3500,,having the best Cummins ever made into a modern cab would be the ultimate truck,,,i'd pay good money for such a kit or information on how the work out the electricals,,,surely we have electrical gurus on here that could figure this,,,afterall,,the engine requires only power to the starter and fuel on solenoid to run,,,and the transmission wouldn;t need much... keeping the luxuries inside is what i want to keep,,LOL...
