Hi I don't have enough power how hard is it to put a second gen motor in a first gen truck ?what are the differrences what has to be modified ? what do I need to get 450 - 500 horespower out of second gen motor? or is a 24 valve engine swap a better choice ? this is a play truck so it will be a long term project. just want more power

Thanks

Darrin

Its easier to get that amount of HP cheap on a 12valve but either will do it with no problem. Where you spend the money is controling EGTs.

Hi Bushwakr I don't want to try to get 450 - 500 hp out of my motor I just want 450-500 hp OR MORE. If I have to put a 2nd gen motor in to accomplish that kind of horsepower that's fine I want to know what has to be changed to fit the 2nd gen motor and if it can be done. Any suggestions

Thanks Darrin

You should be able to swap a 2nd Gen engine with no problems.

You would be better off with a 12valve of course, at least in my opinion.

Once you've found a good one to build, you'll need cam, fly-cut pistons, P-7100 pump that has been reworked, like PDR's "Stoopid Pump", a comp turbo or twins, full balancing of crank, rods, pistons, good idea to girdle the block, injectors, head and block O-Ringed, 60 lb valve springs, port and polished head, ATS manifold, min. 4" exhaust, serious trans work or clutch, propane or nitrous, and probably a few things I've left out.

You're looking at some very serious $$$ to do this right.

Is that a help???

He said 450-500 not 650-700

It is cheaper to build for high horse power the first time than it is to keep buying and build up slowely to it. IMHO

You can always detune the motor to the level you want. But to build a low power engine then want more. Means more parts to buy and resell the lower power parts. It is a never ending circle. I say build hi power one time. Enjoy it a what ever level you want to detune to. IMHO

Exactly, with that setup, he can run valet mode and see about 400 hp on the street and with it off he'll run up to 500 hp.

Those components will allow for reaching the goal(s) easier than would be the case without them. Otherwise he'd have to push a lesser system hard to reach the goals... . but hey, what do I know, I drive one of the "old" trucks... ;)

Besides I thought he wanted 450-500 OR MORE !! so that's what motivated my suggestion... and I'm jealous too... ;):)
