2nd Gen Seating?

I was wondering how hard this transplant is? I know some have done this to their trucks, and I need new seats. So with that in mind, it is either the expensive bolt-ins, or may be the second gen option.

I've got Caravan power/reclining buckets in my 91. Did take some fabrication work on the mounts.

Go for the second gen Quadcab seat's they have the seatbelt's built into the seat's make a Great swap and Fit Nice also

Does anyone know right off if the 3rd/4th gen seats will fit? Or are they too wide?

I've read of guys doing it so i'm sure they'll fit. Whether or not they were as comfortable as other options was to be debated. I'd say if you've got the seats, do it. Personally, I am going to do the 2nd gen seats or some captains chairs out of a 1st gen. Just depends on what you like I guess.

I got some 2nd Gen seats that didn't have the seat belt built in. I didn't have the fabrication skills to build a new floor mount, but discovered that the slide rails are identical to the 1st Gen. I had to pop a couple of rivets, but was able to put the top part of the rail slide onto the existing floor rail.

I also disabled the tilt on the passenger seat as the bracket had cracked.

Hey, that sounds like the seats I have... 2nd gen without the seat belt built in. I'll give that a try!

I know this doesn't really help regular cab guys, but here's a couple more pic's.

If you use 2nd gen QuadCab seats... you can only use 2000 and up. 99 seatbelt equipped seats used electric solonoids to control lockup. You would have no way to control the function of them without the corresponding black box under the seat (actually an electronic box with a device that measures tilt, G-force etc). And that box is tied into the ignition, domelamps and the airbag control module. An impossibility. Unless your able to flip a rigged up switch right before the moment of impact.



Dodge did away with this complex, problem plagued setup in 2000 by going with a simple mechanical lockup device in the seats themselves instead of electronic solonoids. I had a 99 with these... and they used to mess up all the time and cause power to be supplied to the solonoids all the time and kill my batteries if it sat for 3 days. Was a real pain to fix using a factory manual. Dealer was clueless on what to do. I had to change the wiring so the solonoids were only powered up (unlocked to pull the belt out) if the key was on. Normally the are unpowered (locked) when the truck is off... when the door is opened and the dome light comes on... they power up and unlock so you can put your belts on before starting.

Well that's wierd I had 2002 seat's in my first crewcab n now have another set ready to rock n roll n Never have had any problem's with the belt's

Which is why I said 2000 and up seats were OK to use. Thus your 2002 seats are fine. They have typical mechanical lockup spools in them. Its the 99 seats that were odd and will not work without having 2nd Gen electronics.

Where are you guys finding the second generation seats? Is it salvage yards, dealers, or someplace else?

I found mine on craigslist. I've seen others on CumminsForum and ebay.

Most of the ones in junkyards here have been ruined by the weather, or have greasy parts thrown on them.
