I found a set of Dana 70 3. 54 gears on the TDR classifieds, and was wondering if a Dana 70 was a Dana70, or if there was some difference between the 2 generations. The gears are from a V10 dually- he installed them then put in 4. 10s for whatever reason. Supposedly has the marking stuff still on the gears- I havent waited to download the pics yet. Will these gears work? The Dana/Spicer p-n is 48738 for the ring gear, 48737 for the pinion, or maybe vice versa. If it will work, it will be a biug savings over putting in new retail 3. 54s ($400 a few years ago for Mom's truck). Or if someone has a 3. 07 dually axle in good shape... .....

I know, I may need a new bearing kit (though they just got redone 70K ago), and probably some new shims, but still I'd be coming out ahead.

Dana 70 should be dana 70 as far as the R&P go. The only diff in dana 70 is the 32 spline axels, and your 35. Dunno what the price it on the used one, but in my last 4X4 mag, you can order a genuine gear r&p for a dana 70 for $189. I'm sure my buddy can get them cheaper yet through Randy's Ring and pinion.

My brother has a 4X4 dually 307's but he won't break up the set. Weren't you going to aquire a certain unnamed 4X4 dually club cab in Indiana? Maybe you need a set. ;)

I was thinking I didn't spend much over $200 on my last 3. 55 dana 70 r&p. If you have the tool to properly remove the bearings from the carrier, you probably won't need new ones. I would venture to say the setting will be pretty close if you use the current settings. I can't remember if the bearing is pressed on the pinion or not. After getting the pinion set right I would definatly put the new gear on the carrier and install it. If I was a betting man it will probably be close.
