I'm wondering if anyone has put a nice 40/20/40 type bench seat out of a 94 or newer Dodge in their 1st generation?

I'd like to know if they would work ok without too much modification. I've rode in the SLT 2nd generation trucks and love the seat. Also with the club cab a folding backrest would make it easier to get to the back of the cab. Any hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much.

Club cab seats

I have the seats out of a 96 Club (Quad) cab in my 92. You have to drill new holes for the all the bolts (In the flat part of the floor for the outer bracket, not the seat riser) and the rear outer bolts required a spacer since they locate outboard of the riser (I used a piece of 3/4" pipe about 3" long.

Take you time lining it up. Your's may be different being a Club Cab. You will have more leg room than I do for sure (The back of the cab gets in the way

Okay, I previewed it and all the spaces arent there.

Move half the X's and I's to the far end of the lines and you get the picture.

Ditto on what sgriffing said. I also installed 96 Ram leather power buckets in my 92 Club Cab. Best money I ever spent. The newer seats are immensely more comfortable than the factory bench, so I no longer get backaches on long trips.

They took much longer to install than I originally figured. I bolted the 3 seats together, and then moved them around as a unit until I had them where I wanted them. Then I marked the holes on the carpet and drilled 1/2" holes. Like sgriffing, I also used a 3/4" pipe for the outside/rear bolts. I used the original 92 seat belts for the outside seats, and the 96 seat belt for the middle seat (96 belts have a different style tongue).

Bottom line is they look really nice, and I highly recommend the upgrade to anyone considering it.

I take it you used the existing pedastals from the late model. I my have an opportunity to swap my buckets and console for these seats, would like to know what other headaches came about. What about the height of the seats, was this a problem?

Does anybody have any photos to post?

Regarding 62MaxWedge's question about seat height, the '96 seat cushions do sit higher than my stock bench seat did. I have the power driver's seat lowered all the way, and the slight additional height allows for better outward visibility for me.

I have just posted several seat pictures in my Reader's Rig gallery, including the '96 brackets, and the spacers I added.

If someone has trouble finding seats, I can recommend the guy I bought mine from. His name is Deon Collins, and he is from Rantoul, IL (SW of Chicago). He calls himself "The Seat Guy", and sells numerous seats on eBay. You can email him at -- email address removed -- with any special requests. I was very pleased with what he sold me.
