I brought in my '04 for that recall "out of park". While at the dealer I figured let them change the oil for $59. 00 w/ tire rotation. My Truck only has 10k on the engine, yes its an 04 w/only 10k miles. When I got it back home, I checked the oil levels out of habit and I noticed two things. First, the oil was already Black, why is that? And secondly, and more important, It was a sunny day out and i noticed all sparkly things in my oil, looks like metallic pieces, could this be normal for my second oil change? I am very concerned, should I be. Any feedback would be appreciated, Thank you.

My oil turns black as soon as I change it. I have never noticed any sparkling metal in the oil thats been drained out or the fresh oil. Your signature notes that your truck is a 2004, which would have the 305/555 engine. People I know that have this engine don't see black oil until they have 6 to 8k miles on the oil. But as you can see from my signature the 600 engines turn it black very soon.

Well guys, Thanks for your input. I even searched all past threads and found allot of facts on color but none on particles in oil on dipstick. Hopefully this is normal for such few miles and really still in break-in period.

I think the "sparkly" stuff you see are metallic particles that scrape loose from the dipstick itself when shoved in and out of the tube.
