It is time for my 2nd oil change and I was wondering what type of oil to go with. My first was done at a Mobil Lube, but I plan to do my own from here on out. Any comments on Delo 400 15/40 as this is what I was intending to use?
I used Rotella for the first 17k miles, now i am using Amsoil 5W-30 Sythetic. And major name brand diesel oil wil be fine. Just avoid Synthetics till at least 15K
I have used Delo 400 since first change and been happy with it, I have 33000 miles and change every 3000. Is every 3000 an over kill? perhaps, but cheap insurance IMO.
Where do you get your oil at?? I run Shell Rotella t. Have you found a place to get the fluid for the 6 speed ?? I want to change out all the break-in fluids. I change the engine oil at 3000, over kill maybe. All other fluids are due to be changed at the up coming 15000 mile mark
A one gallon Zip-Lock around the loosened filter—and then out the top.
Another concern is the B+ at the back of the alternator. I believe it is shielded on 2001. Model year 2000 wasn't and a few have reported smoke and sparks when they contacted the back of the alternator with a metal filter wrench.
There is a TSB regarding the bare terminal on the back of the alternator—I had it done on my model year 2000. I just looked at Dave's site and didnt find it.
It's fairly easy to cover up the terminal yourself.
Any quality dino oil i. e. Rotella or Delo will allow the Cummins to outlast the Dodge superstructure built around it. Sad to say. Therefore, I see little use in spending the extra $$ on Amsoil in the engine. Diffy's and transmission's not withstanding.
Crud, Remember to protect your warrenty on that six speed you have to run a Texaco product, dont remember the # put there is a sticker on all of the six speeds with a warrenty voiding if any other product is used, Gunny
