Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2nd to 3rd gear grinding??

I've noticed the past few days when I shift 2nd to 3rd,it feels like it's bashing gears,I can feel it through the stick but can't hear it ,almost like the clutch isn't disengaging enough,but it dosn't do it every time,the other gears are smooth. Only 21,000 on it?good or bad??

On my 2001 HO, I had to have the transmission replaced at about 12,000 miles. The first sign of trouble that I noticed was 3rd gear getting stiff and notchy. As time went on, the transmission became very hard to shift between all gears. I am in no way saying yours is going out because every 6 speed I have driven is picky about shifting into 3rd. As long as I keep the RPM right, most of them slide right in.

Thats what mine is doing,a little notchy into third. :{ ,how long before it crapped out...

Sorry to hear you're having a problem. Not sure if it makes any difference, but what are you using for transmission lube?



I have the 6-speed also, as does Straight6, with no problems...

Hey MTE,missed ya at HOOTERS. Im still running stock fluid,have not changed it yet. was waiting for a nice day to change out axles and trans fluid. Do you think thats the problem... please say yes,oh pleasepleaseplease

I wish I could have been to the Hooter's Event. Got a new fuel pump instead.



I wish I could say yes that's what it is. Funny thing is, changing the fluid often makes it shift a little harder until the fluid 'breaks in' Here's a thought though... if the fluid was low, say because of a leak on the rear seal? That might explain the hard shifting. Well, it's a theory.....



Call Massdiesel and get it diagnosed!!!

MTE thanks,I'll stop by Saterday,I'll be in Norfolk anyways. Funny thing,it shifted fine giong into work today,lots of stop-n-go on 93n. I'll see on the way home... .
