I towed for the second time this weekend with the new ride, and I'm still impressed with this new truck. The round trip on this outing was only just over 200 miles, but it was some brutal climbing. I went to Big Bear lake in the San Bernardo mountians. I pulled up to about 7100' and the performance was great. The trip up Friday afternoon put me in about a hour of stop and go traffic, then I hit the mountian, and about 16 miles of switch back 15-20 mph curves.

I rowed thru the gears all the way up, and the shifts were tight and smooth. This truck seems to be shifting smoother sooner than my 01' did. The dually platform made for NO rolling or pitching of the 5ver, and the ride was still smooth and comfortable. (The 5ver weighs in at aobut 11500)

When I got back I went to the fuel station (at $2. 21 per gal:{ ) and checked the mileage. When I towed on the first trip, I averaged 8. 8 mpg, with about 1200 on the clock. This trip I had about 2500 on the clock, and got 9. 2 mpg. I was really happy with that, as the switchbacks and grades kept me in 3rd and 4th alot of the way up. The ride back was going down the same way, and the exhaust brake and the six speed made it smooth with very little brake pedal needed.

All in all I am very pleased with the progress of the truck, and expect it to get even better in the months ahead:cool:

You know Greg, I don't know yet. I haven't put the gauges in yet, but they are next on my list. I hear that Geno's is back ordered on the Di Procols tho... ... ...

I have 2000 miles on my 04. 5 and did my first big tow last weekend. I have a Lance overhead camper and 4 horse bumper pull trailer total aprrox weight including horses and gear 12500lbs. We did a 300 mile round trip run out of the central valley Calif over to the central coast. I did 9. 5mpg going over and 11. 0 coming back (hand calculated. ) I had all the power I needed. I previously owned a juiced up 2001 3/4 ton with auto transmission and would average about 10. 5mpg doing the same trip with much less power. I have not yet expierenced any of the stated problems. Overall I am very pleased with the new truck.
