I seem to recall a post sometime back that you could engage 2wheel drive in low range, thereby eliminating the fighting of 4wheel drive components while retaining the slower low range. I had lockouts installed on my 04 mostly to not have to slip the clutch so much, and to eliminate the driveline. fight while maneuvering my trailers. The 04 is now for sale and being replaced by a new 2016 3500 4x4 Laramie with a 68rfe, if interested in the 04 see 3rd gen adds. I asked the sales representative about this 2wd in lo, and of course he had no idea. Am I in my old age imagining a post on this, or maybe it's an aftermarket item I'm thinking of. HELP!!

You'll like it. I use mine all the time.

Coming from only owning manual transmission Cummins pickups, I knew the free wheeling of the auto transmission would suck and it does. With the 2wd low unlock, it doesn't suck nearly as bad as I thought. I can keep the truck down to a crawl when going down super steep decent's and actually turn around sharp bends at the same time without the front axle jerking the wheel out of my hands.
