I have been driving my gen one for a few years in the snow and have had no problems with it. A little common sense goes a long ways. I ran over sized tires, the extra height really helps push snow. Of course, we always had a Kaiser M-715 around for the really bad times. There is a vehicle that does not normally need 4wd to roll on. Must be the Detroit Locker and 38" Pro Comps. Glen

Welp my Dad bought the Cummins today. We are gonna go get it Friday or Saturday. He is really excited about it. Thanks for all your input fellas!!!

I have had my truck in 4x4 maybe 3 time since I got it 5 years ago and I lived in vermont until a year ago. and drove 100+ miles aday every day. put about 800 pounds of sand in the back and your good to go as long as you have good tires.

I hope he likes it, I like my 91. The quickest way I know of to get stuck is to drop the front end in a low area, like a grader ditch. On loose gravel, you will find yourself stuck. They are a little nose heavy, common sense though, will take him a very long ways. Glen

Just remember that most of those big trucks out plowing the highways in a storm are RWD. It's all about weight over the drive axle(s).

I have had 3 two wheel drive Dodge Cummings

I don't need a 4 by 4 and they are OK but not all of need one. I put winter treads on my truck plus weight In the bed and go anywhere I need to. Most of the winter my truck sits IN the garage anyway. I drive my wife car. :D She wish my truck was automatic and so do I. Sometimes I think about trading It back IN for a automatic. Its a 2004 dually,4 door 2wheel drive loaded. Only has 7000 miles on It. As you see It just sits In the garage. My brother has driven It more then me.

If the truck your looking at is a standard that is allways a plus for the snow. With those standards you can under power the rear wheels, and allmost allways get traction. Not allways great for the ole transmission, but it gets the job done! The mighty cummins has so much torque, they seem to spin reaal easy, when its spins, keep grabbin gears unitl it hooks up and goes, it might mean almost no throttle in 3rd gear doing about 15 mph, but it will be able to walk up just about anything. Like i said, not real great, but it will get where you have to go, i a standard i use that trick VERY sparingly. good luck. Oh by the way... . first post on here..... finally turned from a lurker to a poster :D !!! GREAT SITE
