ATS Trans - Help me out please

Well sort of..

The front input shaft ripped the splines out of the front hub:eek: . I'm thinking about going to a billet shaft but don't know if i'm going to keep the 96 or not.

Not yet but I have made some passes were it should have, I have made some passes were it shook the tires so hard you couldn't read the guages. Normally the input shaft goes from locked to locked shifts.

Jim

I'm bringing this one back up as I broke something in mine this weekend :(

I still would like to hear from yall as to what you have broken??

As I have been told there is no Billet output shaft for the 2wd??

Nope, Bill has one... ... call Strickland as he is close to you!

So what have you done to see which one it is, if you put it in gear with your foot on the brake then try putting it in park and it grawles on the park rod then it's the output shaft. On my input shaft it was fine but I sheared the teeth off the hub!

Jim

Its the output shaft, it came out with the drive shaft :(

Are you saying there "is" a billet output shaft??

MDW,

I talked to Bill a few weeks ago and Opie (he makes the 4wd output shafts) about a week ago and there wasn't a 2wd output shaft built as of then. Jim might have some updated info though.

Nathan

Well dang I thought Opie had one, don't know what market there is for them as the 2WD bunch is catching up, I'd bet I'll snap on next year with slicks, so much so I think I'll have a spare O/D section... . or maybe a whole transmission.

Let me guess it pop'd at 20 psi.

Jim

I wonder if you'll be able to hold the tires from spinning long enough to snap the output shaft. Most 4wd shafts last at 20PSi. My stocker lasted a yr and 1/2 launching at 20+psi. I hit over 30psi when it broke.

THE TRUTH!

The truth is... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . MDW is starting to feel the pressure of competition. :) In a recent post here in the competition forum he's been challenging me to another race. As the days pass and race date gets closer he feels like the world is closing in around him. He's searching feverishly for a quicker launch. He's installed new rear brakes to hold the slicks during spoolup. He's installed a water/methanol injection kit for 100+ HP. He's installed a momentary button on his nitrous kit to blip during spoolup to help get those slow spooling twins lit at the line.

We're now just 12 days away and he has realized that it's not ever going to be enough. :) So the easiest way out was to powerbrake his transmission and hold the nitrous button just a "LITTLE" too long so it looks like an accident.

THAT, my friends, is the truth.

:)

Seriously though, he's bringing it by today. It's another one of those trannies that's had a hard life similar to Fulmer's. It was originally built for a 280 HP tow vehicle. Here we are 2 and a half years later and the same transmission is behind a twin turbo'd, nitrous injected, methanol injected race truck with stacks, traction bars and big slicks. (Just a slight change in plans, eh?) :) Not to mention it still pulls a 5th wheel trailer to the races and back. Since it's out he figured it was a good time to peep inside to see what kind of condition the clutches are in and acquire some of the newer updated parts.

Hey Michael, your truck moved by itself tonight. :-laf

Who knew Superglue and bubble gum would hold a transmission in it's place?

We had a TON of left over parts, but we tossed them in that little hole in the side of the frame so at least we can say all the parts are on the truck. :-laf
