2WD Or 4WD?

You still need more choices.



Mine's a 6X4. Did'nt want, or need the front wheels driven.

Too many hassels for the 2 or 3 days we get crappy winter weather.

Besides, if the weather gets that bad... ... .....

I'll park the CTD, and take Wifey's Toyota Landcruiser outta the "toybox" .

If that can't make it down the road... ... I'll just stay home.

I'd say that in Colorado the 4x4 out number the 4x2 by 20 to 1, if not more. The only feature of the 4x2 that I like is the lower height. I think it's dumb that Dodge doesn't offer a lower 4x4 height standard with an option for jacking it up. I do kind of miss the full time FWD that my Grand Cherokee had.

As would be expected of snowplowers, all of our trucks are 4WD. However, I could sure do without that extra height during the roofing season, heaving compressors in and out of the bed and those ladder racks are an awful longways up in the air for off loading picks and ladders. (The older I git, the further it feels. )



The difference in bed height from my 91CTD 4WD to the 99 is 8". Doesn't sound like much, but after a week it gets real old.



I'm with Steve, running the dunes is big fun!!



Big fun settin' beside a little car at a stop light in the city, facing up hill with 8" of snow on the road. Light changes and watch the little car in my rear view as he goes sideways trying to git movin . Great winter mobile, no spinnin', just movin'.

Have not had a 4x2 since the late 60's. Got tired of backing on to a grassy spot and all forward motion ceasing. No road Queen! What road queen would carry and use 4 tire chains. Want something to make your hair stand up? Stop on an uphill grade packed snow and ice blocked by a goose neck and with all 4 wheel locked it is sliding for the bank. Horray for 4x4 as it was able to grab and drop the wheel in a berm area so I could put chains on.

I'm living in Central Florida now, use my 4x4 on construction jobs constantly backing 6000lb cargo trailer into and out of sandy construction lots. 4x2 wouldn't cut it. Ive buried the rear several times in 2wd, but switch into 4wd and back it goes no problem.

My wife drives a 4X4 Durango that we take to Colorado in the winter. It saved our BUTTS this year when we hit a winter storm on the way back to Texas. My next Ram will be a 4X4 so we can take it to Winter Park instead of the Durango. The only thing my 2X4 ram does off road is sink! In Austin we dont have much need for a 4X4, but the annual trip to the mountains makes it a necessity. The big plan is for me to get a Crew Cab 4X4 Ram and the wife will get something a little more practicle.
