BHAF... where to buy?

Which is the best exhaust brake?

I have read the past info, is there anything new on the market? Would like feedback on which method is preferred.

I'm thinking about the electric solenoid (like from Granger) method.

Thanks

I am wanting to do this, but darned if I can find someone at a auto parts shop (five chain shops, two dealers, and three speciality shops) to get me the Nippondenso EGR vacuum switch for a Honda Civic. Does anybody have a part number or more specific information, or even another switch?

Just call Al at PDR. After pricing the parts a kit is about $10 more +/- depending on which brand you go with (could be less to go with the kit) & if I have a problem I have someone to call. The kit is made by one of the exhaust brake manufactures (Pac-Brake I think) & has everything needed for the install (very easy 10 min. most of that deciding where to mount the switch - didn't use theirs, it was ugly

Now I'm confused

I would like to hear more from you (pro and cons). there seems to be a considerable price difference for the methods which needs to be justified.

I just need to back my TT in 2wl on occasion and don't want to spend money not needed. Also don't want to hurt the truck.

Thanks

If you want to get by cheap, you can try this.

Here's what I did. Check out this thread:Here . I did it for the exact same reason as you, and so far, it has worked great on both trucks.

I personally would go with the one from PDR. I dont remember the scoop off the top my head, but I recall Piers telling me there was something unique about his little design.

I put together a kit a while back that I feel has some advantages to some of the others. I can also put together a manual toggle valve that does the same as most of the other kits, only for a lot less $. However, I would like to point out a few things about turning off the vacuum to the whole system. First, the actuator for the front axle disconnect is a double acting, it need vacuum to engage and vacuum to disengage the front axle. By turning of the vacuum to the entire system it is possible to have the front axle partially engaged, even though the dash 4WD light is out. Second, the vacuum must be turned off BEFORE you shift into 4WD. It is also important that the valve be set up as a 3-way valve so that it vents off the vacuum downstream from the valve or the trapped vacuum will partially move the CAD. I do not want to "flame" this system, if the person understand its limitations it will work without doing damage to the vehicle. What my kit does is add a manual valve (more reliable than an electric solenoid valve) that allows the driver to engage-disengage the front axle any time the transfer case is in 4WD, even while moving.

Bob,

Thanks for the input. I was unaware of the vacum push pull operation. My specific use was for either backing up trailers, or SLOW pushing/pulling of things.

By saying your design, is this an item that is marketed, or a home kit. I am interested in learning more about what you are talking about with the 3-way switch. PM me when you have time.

2WL

I have BOB V's kit in my truck. Works great, allowing me to use low range to back my 5vr. Excellent kit and easy to install.

Posi Lok

Does the Posi Lok kit replace the vacuum oem actuation?

And for my understanding, when shifted to 4WD all of the kits are just disconnecting the right axle?

Anyone using the Posi Lok Please tell me how you like it and describe the operation.

Thanks

Tom
