Has anyone heard anything about Dodge 3/4 ton & up being sold to Sterling Trucks? I know that the grills are interchangable. Also saw a class c motorhome that looked like a Dodge from the side, but had a Sterling grill. Are we going to be buying Sterlings next year??

I don't think so. Daimler Trucks North America has decided to discontinue Sterling trucks. On October 20, 2008 Daimler Trucks announced that production of Sterling trucks would end by mid-2010.

From link at bottom of the sterling truck website. Sterling Trucks -- Important message to our customers

October, 2008

Dear Customers,

You may already be aware of Daimler Trucks North America's (DTNA) decision to discontinue the sale of Sterling branded Heavy, Medium, and Light duty Trucks. After months of extensive review, and after examining a range of alternatives for both DTNA and Sterling, we reached the painful conclusion that this action was a necessary response to dynamics in the economic environment, and future demands on the company's capital and other resources.

A Sterling Truck is a fine vehicle, built to the standards of Daimler, the oldest and most storied motor vehicle manufacturer in the world. You can count on your truck(s) for years of reliable and profitable service, and on our support, through the Sterling dealer network, for replacement parts, maintenance services, warranty repairs, and technical support, for many years to come:

Length of projected availability
Proprietary Sterling parts 10 years
Proprietary Sterling Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) Parts 7 years
Legacy Ford parts 3 years
Orders for Sterling L- and A-Line vehicles may still be placed through January 15, 2009. Abundant stocks of all Sterling models are available for immediate delivery, as well, as of this writing.

Should Sterling service be discontinued by an established dealer, DTNA will make alternative arrangements to support customers like yourself, in the affected area.

Our intention is to convince you that you're being a part of the Daimler Trucks North America family of customers is very much the right choice for you, and earn your continued patronage through our services and product offerings.

Thank you.

I heard Dodge and the Chrysler contract to buy Cummins engines was sold to Ford so Ford could finally make the bogus truckstop rumor about Ford owning Cummins almost true.

Nahhh. Just sarcasm.

Hell, the way things are going for the big three Cummins may just wind up owning them... . New Rumor Cummins owns Ford... ... ... ... ... ... ... :p

What you saw was a Sterling Bullet. It is a Dodge Heavy Duty with a Sterling Grille and interior appointments. Dodge builds them for Sterling (or did). Sterling Trucks is going out of business, a victim of the recession and very slow medium/heavy duty truck sales. Some parts of Sterling will probably be absorbed by Freightliner and Western Star, its two siblings, all owned by Daimler.
