I'm looking for information on how I would go about converting my 99 3. 54 to a 4. 10. I'm currently running 285/75/16 tires and I'm looking at running 295/75/16. These tires drop the ratio to around 3. 01 or 3. 1.

I have also thought about converting my rear drums to disk. With both in mind I think I would have to find a 2001 and change the entire front and rear ends.

What are the pros and cons of doing this?

Need help

Thanks

If you started with 245/75/16, going to a 295/75/16 would bring your effective gear ratio to 3. 26:1.

If you started with 265/75/16, going to a 295/75/16 would bring your effective gear ratio to 3. 38:1.

I run the 37" BFG (at a more realistic 36. 3" per their website) and my effective ratio is 3. 10:1. I've verified this with a GPS compared to my speedo, I'm real close to 14% low on my speedo reading.

Where in Northern Ca are you? I have a mechanic in the Sacramento area or there are a couple of good ring/pinion shops around here. PM me or email me if you want any more info.

You can change the gears in your existing axles and get an aftermarket disc brake kit for your truck, probably cheaper than replacing entire housings front and rear. If you swap with another truck, at least the newer brake master cylinder would be needed for proper brake proportioning changing from drums to discs.
