I have a question for the wheel/tire/suspension gurus.

This evening I installed my new wheels and tires. There is a 3. 5mm wheel spacer on the passenger side front only. Does anyone have a logical explanation for this? Any help would be appreciated.

I think it was added on an "as needed" basis to center the wheels under the truck. I don't know if it was for appearance or due to tolerance stack between the frame and the track bar and the front axle. I think it was all 4 x 4's that had them, the came in different thickness too. I'd leave it in, as cheap as DC is, it must be there for something.

I totally agree with Extreme1,

From all that I read and see on my own, it's there to make the wheels have the same spacing in the fender wells. The HD CTD trucks have stiffer (so they start out taller and should stay taller) front springs. Since the tack bar is the same on all the trucks, this causes the axle to be pulled towards the driver's side, bringing the driver's side tire out of the wheel well and the passanger side tire into the wheel well.

An adjustable trackbar can fix the problem too...

ICEMAN,

I've heard that before. I think someone even posted a TSB number regarding it, which was real. But have you tried it? I did for giggles... took mine out the last time I rotated my tires. not a bit of difference. and for the life of me I cant see see how 3. 5mm is gonna make the difference. There's more effects from the weight distribution and crowning of the road. And that means the guys with lifts that did nothing about the trackbar. . should be making right hand turns when they brake.

I think this DC TSB is like most new NY state laws... a feel good thing, like a placebo. instead of doing something real to fix the problem, they throw darts.

bk,,

i have the whole set,,hangin in the garage. the dealer installed one of them on my 94 when it was new due to pulling to one side when braking. they came as a kit and retailed for $500. give or take a few.

Me too, I have two 3. 5mm and one 5. 5 mm and one 4. 5 mm. They put them in my truck to try to fix the brake pull. When I fixed it myself they came out and stayed out. My wheels are centered in the wheelwells too, the axle is not offcenter. If anyone needs them let me know, you pay shipping and you can have them LOL.

thanks guys. my spidey engineering senses just say it doesnt make sense and it was DC BS.
