We all have heard about 3. 54s VS 4. 10s, the pros and cons of both. Well why dosen't DC give us the option of 3. 73s? To me this would be perfect. This maybe one of fords better Ideas? You would still have towing power with fuel economy to boot... . Well what do you guys think?

I have 4:10s and average 22mpg.

Would't trade them for anything. :D

Who needs to go over a 100mph anyway? I already get tickets for doing 88mph in a 55 zone ouch;) and thats with a loaded 4 horse trailer.

I didn't know this truck could go that fast officer.

Another (maybe less expensive) thought is taller tires. With my 35" tall tires and 3. 54 gears, I'm at 1950 rpm at 80 mph, and 3000 rpm at 120 mph (theoretically of course ;))

What a shame!

That would probably be the perfect gear for my truck. Came factory with a 4:10 and in Kalifornia I was getting run over on the freeways. Found someone who wanted to swap gears and now have the 3:54. Greater top end but dogged her out down low.

EZ seems to have fixed the problem for now:D :D :D

Work truck or not I'm feeling the need for speed!!!!

I will probably be getting 3:73 gears put in my truck in the front and rear dif's. Because I feel that it would also be the best for highway speeds and also for towing.

Stefan, If you do get them be sure and let us know how they work out for you, I would be interested in knowing and Im sure the others would too. :D

Kurt, you've just geared yours up higher. Probably like 3. 20 or so. These guys are looking to get in the 3. 73 neighborhood. That would take shorter tires on the 3. 55 trucks and taller ones on the 4. 10s. The way I see it, with that big ugly rear wheel opening, the last thing any of us needs is shorter tires to make it look even worse. I actually really like the way my truck works with the 3. 55s. I drove up to see the boys at Edge EZ and they gave me a box to try and that thing made a big difference. For me the EZ power and the 3. 55s are the just right combo.

3.73s would be the perfect combo

I think the 3. 73 combo would be perfect combo. Running 55 - 60 in OD pulling 5ver has her too close to lugging and 5th is to low a gear, engine is running to high (for my taste) w/3. 54s. But works well for me running the interstates 65 and above. 4. 10s would be nice if I towed all the time. But running a mix of towing and empty, 3. 73s would be perfect. Taller tires for 4. 10s is not an option, 4x4 . truck is too high already when trying to hook up to a 5ver. Sure hope DC take this into consideration in the design of the next generation. Just my 2 cents.

According to a Dodge Rodeo Rep I talked to a month ago, when they change the body style of the 2500-3500 for the 03 model year, 3. 73 will be an option.

They are available...

The 3. 73 ratios are available, as well as 4. 56 ratio.

You had to order a factory HD chassis to get them, like a dumptruck or van body. They are out there, but very rare. I found this out by looking in some dealer option sheets for various models.

hahahahahaha ... towing
