I think somebody had checked on this a while back, but I don't remember.

Does ANYBODY make a 3. 73 gearset for the Dana 60/80 setup on a RAM 3500? It seems to me that since Ford offers that as the only ratio on their trucks, and that they use Dana axles, that it ought to be available on our RAMs.

I just found out today that USGear has oversold their overdrive units to the point that the one I ordered MIGHT ship before Thanksgiving. Well, that's too little too late. I'm about to cancel the order and just do a gear ratio change instead, IF I can find the ratio I want.

This sucks.

I looked at a couple of 4x4 websites and magazines that showed 3. 73 gearsets for the Dana 60,but nothing for the 80. Of course Ford offers the 3. 73 in the 80,but I wondered why the replacement 3. 73 aren't litsted in anyones catalogs. I'm beginning to think that maybe Dana doesn't make a 3. 73 for the 80,so Ford is making this gearset for their own truck.
Right now,it seems the only way to do this,is to get the 3. 73 for the 60 from any 4x4 shop, then order a 3. 73 ring and pinion for the 80 from a Ford Dealer.

I'm in the opposite boat as you... I don't like my 3. 54's. With my 285/75/16 tires, the 3. 54's make my RPM's way to low... it's out of the efficiency band(1950-21500rpm).
I'd be happier with 4. 10's,but 3. 73's would be perfect.

There is a company in either Oregon or Washington that has the Ring Gear and Pinion set for the Dana 80s. It is a direct bolt in for the 3:54. It will not bolt in to the 4:10 because the carrier is differant. 3:73 set was quoted to me at $350. Somewhere on one of these threads in times gone by, I gave the name of the company and their phone number. It is someones name (Joe, Nick, Dave etc) Gear Service. I picked them up out of a magazine. I know they are in the northwest. I wanted to change my 4:10s for the 3:73s, but the 4:10 is only unto itself. You can change the 3:54s but not the 4:10s. Let me know if this helps. I know I put the info in a safe place... so safe even I don't know where it is. Good Luck... ... ... ... Barry

I think the place you are refering to is Randy's Ring and Pinion Service in Everett, WA. You can reach them at 800-292-1031 or at http://www.ring-pinion.com I have not dealt with them, so I can't say if they have the ratio you are looking for. Also, their website leaves a lot to be desired. Hope this helps... .
