3.9 v6 questions

Hello all



The woman says more power in her Jeep Cherokee. It is an 86 2. 8 v6, the 4. 0 I6 was not available yet, so the engine bay is not long enough for the bigger Jeep motor. I am planning either the 3. 9 Mopar or 4. 3 Chevy motor. Does anyone have the weight of the 3. 9? Would like to stay with a Dodge engine as I have more experience with these, but there are kits made for the 4. 3/Cherokee swap already made, and it would probly be easier to get parts for the 4. 3. Motor would get a carb for induction duties. I would swap motor, transmission, and 'case from donor vehicle into Cherokee. I have decent fab and welding skills, so if it will fit in the bay, it will work. I would swap the 3. 9 5speed to the NV3500 from a 318, if it will fit, anyone know?

The 3. 9 is just a 318 with two cylinder cut off. So you can use 318 bell housings and fly wheels with no problem. The only thing you might need is a electric fan when you go into the Jeep. You would end up with a fan spacer about 8 to 10 inches long. I'll take some pic's of an install I did into a 64 Dart after the sun comes up.



I don't know the wieght on the 3. 9. But the front end raised up over an inch after install. The car had a /6 in it.
