adjusts timing with the high idle? i was not aware of that... But that could explain a few things

Last Saturday Morning. 41 deg. F (per truck overhead). Started it cold, it immediately went into high idle (1000 rpm). After a minute or two of this, the idle became slightly "rough", but stayed at 1000. It definitley wasn't a 3-cyl rough, more like a slight miss. A tap on the brake pedal brought it back down to low idle.

This rough idle on the 3rd. gens. seems to be the norm for the beasts. Seems everyone that has one comments about it. As far as the high idle is concerned, IMO it is always better if the diesel is at a high idle when it has to sit and idle. In fact, I wish that they would have had mine idle at 1200 rpm instead of just 1000. But oh well!
