3 open circuts

Taking a SWAG on the wiring harness issue, I am looking at at least 3 open circuts on "Old Ugly". No, I havent got it running reliably as yet. I have pretty much decided on taking it to a automotive electrical shop to get it fixed. Discussing it with Doug at D&D Automotive Electrical, he says that the wires are corroded by the Magnesium Chloride that is widely and liberally used on our roads. Without thoroughly washing the underside of the truck weekly, the road salt makes its way into any flaws in the wiring harness/insulation or connections and destroys the integrity of the system. Make sense to me. Just have to save some money for the tow and repair. Wont happen till February. Thats where this project stands. This is the longest I have been without my truck:{. Still have other repair work to do to keep it on the road. Beginning to doubt if it was worth it. Greg

Greg I hear you on the extremely extensive damage that the mag chloride causes. It is also taking my truck out.

Even weekly washes don't eliminate the problem. My son has his 05 washed weekly and it is starting to rust through believe it or not.

Hopefully the states will realize the damage and the potential safety hazzards they are causing and go back to regular salt and sand.

Jay, won't happen. With all the sue happy people out there, the states aren't going to chance a lawsuit. Remember when they used sand and you had to know how to drive? :-laf Not anymore. I was pondering this just yesterday, less salt, more intelligent drivers..... nope, can't see it! :{

I've been trying to get Gilpin County to pave the mid County road into Jefferson County(paved) for several years. 10 Years ago they created an all weather dirt road over the Mountain from a 4X4 trail. Jefferson County (East of us) paved their section within a couple of years, recognizing the increased usage of the mid county access into the metro area. Gilpin County does not recognize the change and refuses to upgrade. Their fix is multiple layers of road base cemented together with Mag Chloride. When this process is being applied and it rains, there is always several hundred pounds of salty mud slung up under the fenders and the undercarriage of the truck (and Cars). I scrapped 1" of that crap off the transmission and T-case when it was pulled down. My fenders are rusted through at the rear wheels. You would think this truck spent its working life in West Virginia. Vehicles rust out fast there! Greg
