Ideas for hanging motorcycle from garage ceiling

as p-bar stated the rotophase tries to shove a third leg in between the 180* single phase. with your motor running use a amprobe to check current on each leg, it will instantly be obvious why the motor looses power. and as stated above the voltage to ground will be 120 volts for the single phase legs and 160 to ground for the odd angle, with no true 120* angle between phases the motor poles are not lined up for best efficiency

Dang, Time flies when yer havin fun! I did get another "buzz box" phase converter. I decided on the quick and dirty familiar method. I bought a Phase-a-Matic PAM-300HD converter. I got it wired in and it worked great, except for the loud, annoyiing clicking noise after shutting off the lathe.

I called the manufacturer. They sent a replacement unit that has a "more compatible" circuit board . I need to replace the replacement and send it back.

Just wanted to bring y'all up to date and thank you very much for your input.

If I ever setup a new shop, I will use the new technology you have kindly pointed out;). However, where I am presently, it is not an affordable/practical solution. Thanks againOo. !! GregH

p-Bar, I am sure that may have been possible for someone with no physical issues. Working on my hands and knees is no longer possible, for me. The phase converter was the easiest accessible repair, for me to do, my-own-self. I try to take every opportunity to make lemonaide out of the bag of lemons I've been given;)! GregH

Well I'm screwed up and think everybody else on this site is younger than me (53) so my apology. I'm sure I'll be there one day I beat up my body pretty good in construction still. But just a water pump on my Cummins and oil change all in one day and my back didn't hurt at all. Waiting for the rapture

p-Bar! AMEN, Brother!!! I got +10 years on ya and been rode hard and put away wet!!!:-laf. I can do some stuff, it just takes a lot longer:D. Just have to pick and choose:eek:! GregH

updates on update

Got the replacement PAM-300HD wired in and running. It works great. There is a buzzing noise on occasion, but the lathe functions with no banging/clicking from the buzz box!

Just wanted to mention that I realize this is not the latest or best way to do this. However, the static phase converter works in all the areas where I need it, its an easy(for me) replacement and the Phase-A-Matic customer service is outstanding.

Mike Jones, at Phase-A-Matic is very flexible and relates to his customers needs. Mr. Jones also accepted the return of the original failed unit, for research purposes. Seems there is a commitment to quality in that company. I was not paid or given free equipment to write this! GregH

Great I think that is the most important thing is after the product is purchased. Nothing in it for them, good old fashioned customer service

There's no shame in that! If it works, it works. Why make things more difficult for yourself?
